Is it safe to...

Is it safe to run just a downpipe and take off the stock cat and the catback?I'm just testing it out to see how it runs, but I wanted to make sure that it's safe before I did anything really stupid..

Safe to let it idle (it will be LOUD!), not safe to drive -- you will boost creep like a mofo.

jgreen1075 05-19-07 02:19 PM

yea, definitely dont drive around with that lol

HKNY 05-19-07 04:43 PM

that has to sound very obnoxious

turBRO240 05-19-07 05:56 PM

LOL actually... me and my friend drove around town like that for a couple of days because we were tesing a few things.

Heres a video of how it sounds (note: the coolant seals are gone so it sounds like bridgeport) http://youtube.com/watch?v=O0FGoZ9HmP4

.....and yes... its THAT loud :)

I was quite hesitant about doing this because of boost creep and when it backfires the flame might hit gaslines, gastank, etc..

i wouldnt do it. Almost all cat-less rx7's shoot fire...lots of fire. I would prefer the fire not to be shooting underneith my car toward fuel lines.

SLOASFK 05-19-07 08:41 PM

I'd say not to do it. Afterburn("rotary backfire") will roast the underside of your car pretty fast.

Might as well take off the DP to
