FD3S RX-7 M2.1020

Built by M2 (I'm pretty sure its not the M2 that we know of from the bayarea)

-Tuned ECU+Exhaust tune, 265ps
-20 way adj. shocks
-Vent. Hood
-Rear Spoiler
-Font bumper
-BBS Rim
-Font: 235/45R17, Rear: 255/40R17
-Bucket seat

Anyone have read or heard about it? I thought this was kind of interesting...
It was supost be a "track ready" rx7 sold by mazda.
Its the same concept as M2 1001 and M2 1002 Miatas sold in Japan.

the_glass_man 12-18-04 07:37 PM

Yeah, sure. Hasn't everyone?

Gamezilla 12-18-04 09:46 PM

purerx7 12-18-04 10:10 PM

uxcFD 12-18-04 10:11 PM

hahah oh man... awsome idea, a track ready RX-7 but dear lord that spoiler!!!

speedx7 12-18-04 10:41 PM

wtf with that wing

JaNusSolSumnus 12-18-04 10:48 PM

I thought the R1/R2 were track ready RX-7's....

Yea its pretty ugly, I can see why it never made production.

Never thought about a lift kit for mine.........Cool

oneflytrini 12-18-04 11:29 PM

That wing is Silvia wannabe

RE Suzuki 12-19-04 02:17 PM

Its wierd how they design the rx7 with those nasty body kits.
Their special edition miata 1001, and 1002 looks pretty good and its very popular among miata community.

diablone 12-19-04 02:38 PM

Funny that everyone is judging the car based on looks, rather than the function it's apparently designed for.

1sicsol 12-19-04 03:33 PM

I see no function with body kits and 3 foot wings. And I wound not drive that no matter "what" it functioned.

rpm_pwr 12-19-04 04:29 PM

That looks like a crude copy of an RX-7 SP. The same wing but without the centre support. The wing on the SP was purely functional.

Incidentally, they were quite successful too. The road-going homologation version sold out in record time, wing and all.

so true. lotta reverse ricers round here. people get so conditioned against "rice" that they forget what function can look like. people forget that a lot of ricers are just copying racing designs, and then when they see an actual race car, they call it rice.

gotta love this trend in anti rice ignorance.

i'm not saying that i've wind tunnel tested that body kit, but this car IS NOT for looks or cruising the beulevard, it's an actual race car, so engineers didn't have to impress anyone and went for pure function. keep that in mind instead of complaining about silly subjective ideas like looks.

Boost 12-19-04 04:43 PM

that was the australian sp2. the supposed successor to the SP like someone mentioned above.

*edit: actually after really looking at the picture, thats not even close to the sp2. just a bad copy like mentioned above

Boost 12-19-04 04:58 PM

i'd guess that the article is talking about the sp2 though since it was a car that was built then disassembled and never saw production.

93type-x 12-19-04 05:02 PM

At least they didn't put those NASTY tezza style lights on it :puke:

travisorus rex 12-19-04 06:07 PM

You guys are a bunch of rejects. The car wasn't designed to make you become fully erect when you see it. It was designed for the track and besides the fact that the car was probably designed years ago (before the Altezza and a bunch of other "rice" bullshit) I dont think Mazda gives a shit about your opinions.

The SPII is rare, so rare, I think that only 2 or 3 of these cars were ever produced. And the wing, btw helped take corners faster....something like 5 extra mph. So people should take i easy with the rice comments. Also, the "street" SPII looked like this, samething, just minus that big wing. Theres a lot of race history that comes from these cars too. They won a lot, and eventually got banned.

rpm_pwr 12-19-04 09:22 PM

Only one SP2 was ever made. The wing you see there is a copy of the SP1 wing. Simple really.

HEns 12-20-04 05:22 AM

yep, looks like an sp to me.........

I stand corrected :D. I read about the SP 4 years ago....

badddrx7 12-20-04 05:26 PM

Folks also thought the dodge Daytona was also ugly, until it started setting track records for speed !

Tom

RE Suzuki 12-20-04 06:11 PM

when did they build the sp? I think this 1020 was built around early days, 1994~6.
They have the same BBS rims which were on early rx7 type-RZ

prrex4ever 12-20-04 06:24 PM

According to page 155 of the book RX7 by Brain Long the M2 was an organization established in Nov 1990 to serve as a link between the factory and enthusiasts. THe actual car was due to be launched in April 1995. The project was cancelled because of worries concerning aftersales care. Just quoting the book.:D
