RX7 future pricing range and such.
How do you think its heading? do you think it will be cheaper or more expensive to buy a RX7 FD3S 1993-1998 in a few years?
im 14 at the moment and iv been into cars for a while, and i really want one i plan on getting one when im a bit older but im just wonding if its going to be cheaper or more expensive in the furture to buy one, i work at my cousins workshop and he says that he will get me one and rcnks they will be cheaper in a few years. |
Yes, cheaper. All cars depreciate - the collector value of these cars doesn't exist except for the very (very!) low mileage examples.

yeah they're getting cheaper and cheaper but there are lot of them getting ran off the road (accidents, fires) so it'll be harder to get..but its still easy now to find them, dont know about a couple of years from now..you'll prob be able to pick one up for about 7-8k good condition in about 3 years or so..

Well, in 5 years no one will buy one since rocket cars will come into being, and everyone will be to busy commuting to Mars to work on FD's :).
Seriously, values have been holding steady for a while. A decent car is worth $10-15k, with beaters worth less and stellar cars worth more. Finding the good cars will get harder over time, since every day people wreck them, rice them up, etc. Dale |

it also depends on what area you're in too.
in canada for example, we can't import j-spec fd's untill they're 15 years old. so in 3 or 4 years we'll be able to get 1993 J spec fd's probably for dirt cheap. |
Not too long ago I sold my FD with 30,125 miles that was in flawless condition for $25K. I think RX-7's with low milage thats in outstanding condition will always be wanted by a true enthusiast.

I know it won't happen, but why doesn't Mazda make the new RX-7 in Pontiac Solstice range? MT and C+D loved that car.
So build a new base RX-7 for $19,000 and a top of the line one for $25,000. They should just make it fast and nimble. Leave off all the fancy GPS, Navigation systems and other goodies that drives up the cost of other cars. Again just make it a weekend car, but, leave off that fancy-schmancy stuff. |
Yeah. They could go back to the drawing board with the RX8 (body wise) and make it a true sports car.

Honestly, start saving up !! And regardless of the trend of the FD prices, you have more than enough time to start looking now. Eventually, you will come across a really good deal on a car, since you are still quite young now. Even if it takes about 2-3 years or so, who cares, grab the deal whenever you find that car. That is what I would do, since you can't even drive yet. Then when you have your license ( or before if you find one sooner ) you can start to work on the car and drive it as soon as it is ready. Be sure to do your research on $ and such.

This year I bought a low milage FD at a good price after looking for 18 months. I predict that it will only become more difficult to find a low milage FD. I watched this happen during my 18 month wait.
The FD does not have the same linear appreciation of some german sports cars. They also made so few of them, the total market awareness of these cars is really low. In addition, I konw you guys don't like this, in 2 years you'll be able to buy a low milage RX 8 for 16K. A car that is only 4-5 years old vs. 14-15 years old. Yeah, yeah it's not an FD but it would be a much more relaible car and in time more aftermarket mods will become available. Just ask the guy at MAZMART, he has his fingers on the pulse of the FD market. He gets many of the totaled FDs and various parts/engines. The flow has dwindled. I bought the car because in 1993 it was my first real sports car, and had to sell it when a 3rd child came along. Getting another one was an objective as it restores all the fond memories as soon as I open the door and smell the interior leather: just like my car 11 years ago. It beats having a girlfriend in cost and damage to family life. |
Damn, 18 months? I found and purchased my dream low-mileage FD in like 3 days!
Here's my guide for buying an FD, BTW - http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=25&mnu=5 Dale |

i see them for sale in san diego with new motors, all new hoses and vacuum lines, sometimes turbo upgrades for like 15,000 to 17,000. its not like the mystical FD fairy is going to come down and make all our cars values go up. cars depreciate, so i think you will get a good deal |
