Rx-7 Vs. 300 Z
Oksee Doksee,
I am fixing to run with the big boys around here tomorrow night. The one to beat is a '95 300z TT (bone stock 5-speed). One slight problem, recently, my secondary is only pushing like 8psi. (oops) my pattern is a little backwards, for some reason my primary turbo is pushing 12psi, and when my 2ndary kicks in its at like 8psi. hhhmmmmm...little lag maybe? yeah, completely noticeable. Am I going to win? or suck total ass? |
you should win with those mods...
|
seeing what you have on your sig. it's FO SHO you're going to win haha! against a bone stock 300z! i recently raced a 300 and i raped him then i pulled up on him( he also had his girl in the car) and asked him what he had he was like exhaust, down pipe, Ecu, bigger injectors and all this crap! while i only have k&n air filter, hks down pipe, mega flow exhaust, non-seq. turbo, and JIc coilovers. but yea i've researched alot on 300z and was planning on getting one but i didn't and got my FD :) but yeah you better rape him!
|
5-speed 300Zs are around a 14 second car right? what's a stock auto FD run? I would GUESS that a healthy auto with your mods (and proper tuning) may be able to pick up roughly a second in the quarter. (maybe not quite, but in the neighborhood)
|
My car is broke (well, kind of) ARE YOU SURE?
Maybe I should wear my carbon fiber over-alls, then i'll go faster! |
sounds like you prespool isn't working
this lets exhaust off the primary and onto the secondary, if it stays shut the primary will spool more and the secondary will spool less could be the lack of a pill in the prespool line, broken actuator (under the front side of the UIM, there are two solenoids, it's the one on the left without the white dot on it) |
Damn solenoids and actuators:mad: 93blackFD sounds right - probably prespool. Stock auto FDs run 14.5 in the 1/4 and with only a few mods and unhealthy boost, this race could be somewhat close. Your car even with the 8 psi on the secondary should be a mid 13 sec car - race him from a roll - you should win but I don't think you'll kill him since auto FDs don't fare as well.
|
Hell yea. You'll smoke the 300zx just like that. I use to like 300zxs but yea from what i hear there fastest street 300zx runs in the mid 12s. Im not so sure though. 300zx are heavy so you should take him by 1-2 car lengths. Good Luck!
|
Youre going to kick his ass, 300z's are slow even with alot of mods.
|
yeah ive beaten one before they dont seem to be that much faster than an FD.
|
300zx are heavy so you should take him by 1-2 car lengths. statment is correct depending on driver
|
I was deciding between a 300zx tt and a fd... I test drove 3 300's and 2 fd's. I drove all three 300's first since I was having a hard time finding an fd for sale. They were fast a hell! Then about 3-4 weeks later I found an fd for sell and test drove that. It wasn't mechanically there but it was still quicker than the 300's I drove. With the mods you have you should be able to beat him. 300's are fast but 7's are quick!
|
Well, factoring in driver skill and your offboost, it might make for a close race. If your boost was working properly, I might give you the nod for the win.
As for 300ZXTT's being slow....I don't agree with that. Maybe on a sub-Stage III or stock car relative to the "fast" cars today. Owning both, I would say the 300ZX is the more refined out of the two, no question. And my 300 is faster than the RX7. But when you are modding cars, anything goes. Don't be so quick to write off the 300ZX as "too slow" or "too heavy". Anything can be overcome, and with the right mods and driver, I stand by my statement. Good luck. Keep it safe if you race! My .02, Eggman. |
I think you should win, if the 300zx is bone stock as you said. But tune the secondary turbo boost up a bit might help a lot :)
|
Shouldn't this be in general automotive?
|
My brother has a 300 zx tt and I have driven it. It is pretty quick stock. I let him drive my Rx7 and he said it was retardedly fast compared to his car. But when he puts on his exhaust, intake and ecu then he will be pushing close to 400hp and then it will be a different story. If you are racing a stock 300 zx tt then you should win but if its modified then watch out because they can be pretty fast. There is a black 300zx tt in town and my buddy in his 12s Rx7 was just able to keep up with it. Just don't be to cocky as you might be eating your words.

Why dont you just fix your boost problems first. You might want to try using the Home Depot boost controller(s)[i.e. needle valves= $20.00] to get your turbos working properly.
|
I never race if my car is broken.
The "it is broken"-excuse after you loose just don't cut it! ;) |
I don't know about the 300z anymore... a co-worker of mine has a 94 300z TT and it does haul ass. Here are some of his mods... he hasn't updated his list in a bit, but it's pretty current.
1994 TTZ: ========= JWT Dual POP Apexi AVC-R, AFC Lebree Exhaust Greddy Intercoolers Greddy TD05H-18G Kit Custom Exhaust Piping Nismo 740cc injectors Street ported heads(Mild) with JWT stiffer valve springs Stock bottom end. RPS super special carbon-carbon clutch. Here's his times on the 1/4 First run: 60': 1.829 1/8: 7.430 MPH: 99.91 1/4: 11.285 MPH: 127.46 2nd run he screwed up and ran a 12.0. Third run: 60': 1.864 1/8: 7.410 MPH: 98.94 1/4: 11.282 MPH: 127.21 |
a lightly modded 300z can be as fast or faster than a lightly modded FD. to think that the FD will always win is ignorant. now, highly modded vs. highly modded, they don't seem to be much competition.
obviously, I think the FD is a superior car that's why i have one :) some of you guys need to get off your high horse. |

my first double post :) |
