RX-7 FD / RX-8 - What is compatible?

Hi all.

Did a search, but could not find anything on this topic.

I have a RX-8 chassis sitting here complete with engine (high power), 6 speed, complete suspension, etc... No doors, roof (-was chopped off by fire dep in a drill). The car has 3300 km on it, and "purrs like a kitten".

What is the compatible, desireable parts on this for a FD? I have a FD with T78, and some other mods. Is there any parts that are stock on the 8 that will fit the FD? 6 speed (-I have heard they are weaker, but will it fit?) Prop shaft? Suspension? Brakes (they look huge on the 8).

Anyont with thoughts?

Thank you for your futuRE posts

i dont think anything is. i got an rx8 and it sucks on the winding roads in the mountains, it just lags, i should have got an fd instead. so i'm planning on getting an fd as soon as i could find a 95 thats manual

I wonder if the ignition system is compatible, and it might be nice to use the RX-8's electric air pump instead of the factory mechanical one. The steering wheel should swap over, as well as the shift knob. That's about it. You might be able to retrofit the headlights if you're good at fabricating brackets. H.I.D. was an option, you might want that if your RX-8 has it.

Good luck,
-s-

The FD chopped it off? Aren't there cheaper/ wrecked cars they can practice using the "jaws of life" on? lol

I dont understand why mazda built the rx8 the way they did. The thing makes decent HP, but max hp is at 8500 rpms, which is just rediculous. It also makes very little torque compared to the HP. The rx8 feels like my mom's sentra would if it had a 9k revline.

Just out of curiosity how did you come by this car?

neit_jnf 05-03-05 06:12 AM

Is it driveable?? DUDE just fix it up some and drive the only convertible RX-8!!! COOL!!!

Would you consider selling it ?

Man, you're driving it WRONG!! handling is the best part of the 8, just keep it high in the rpm band... unless yours is automatic...

Hi.

We're not that far off the planet... he-he

I grew up with Tamiya RC cars, and I think that's were I first saw a Baja-Bug.

For the "how I came across it"-question, I am sworn to secracy. "I could tell you, but I would have to kill you". (*- I just scared myself, :eek).

I would think that the driveline is a better candidate for a FC Vert than a FD.

The FD already has the performance parts that it needs, but the vert could use the help.

It would be nice to see someone make the plunge and find out what it takes to put the 8 driveline into the FC.

good luck with that...........

Garoad 05-04-05 08:38 PM

dude, make it into the first rx-8 vert.

charlies7 05-04-05 08:43 PM

does anyone know if the rx8 rims would fit on a FD?

XSTransAm 05-04-05 09:18 PM

i would def look into trying to make it a rx8 vert, couldent be more than 4-5000$ to get it to convertable shape...

then again i bet you dont have the title do you?

MR_Rick 05-04-05 09:34 PM

I say donate the motor to a rotary specialist to see what they can come up with. In the long run that might be the only motor we are going to be able to put into our 7's!!!

Any One Know If The Rotors, In The Renesis Can Be Used
In The 13brew?

zoom44 05-05-05 01:57 PM

yes the rotors can be used - this was told to me by Rick Engeman in the presence og Dr. Ianetti and Jim Mederer. he said something about turning them around that i did not comprehend.

The back 1/2 of it would make a good trailer for hauling race tires/etc.

:)
