Run a Cartest for me

Hey guys I'm wondering if someone with Cartest for me with this or similar conditions.

Stock FD, 5mph-30mph 1st gear and say 20-60 mph 2nd gear acceleration.

Stock FD with lightweight flwheel with otherwise the same conditions.

Stock FD with 4.33 gears and lightweight flywheel otherwise same the conditions.

I'm hoping Cartest will allow the flywheel change, I'm thinking about either a 9.5lb or 12.5lb vs the stocker. The acceleration chosen are typical auto-x speeds and I want to see how much difference it will make theoretically vs. testimonials.

Vehicle weight is 2960lbs (w/driver) before any flywheel changes, I think the stock flywheel is 21lbs.

TIA!

I've only got the old, free DOS version, which you can get here -

http://www.cartestsoftware.com/cartest4.5/index.html

It doesn't allow for flywheel changes, unfortunately. It would probably be pretty tricky to do a flywheel change, as part of the upgrade is moving the counterweight mass towards the center of the wheel from the outside.

Anyhow, according the old DOS program, stock FD 5-30mph is 1.6 seconds rolling start. Putting in the 4.3 gears I get a 1.4 sec 5-30 time.

Might want to download the program and play around with it for a bit - it's good clean family fun :).

From my practical experiences with various light flywheels, I've never really felt better acceleration. But, rev matching, heel/toe downshifting, etc. is MUCH cleaner and easier - dunno how much rowing of the gears you do on a typical track for your autocross.

Hey thanks Dale, I'll check out the link.

Typically at our local auto-xes I run somewhere between 3000-6500rpm in 2nd gear. Those RPM ranges reflect a little bit of guessing on my part since my eyes aren't glued to the tach.

i highly recommend the act pro-lite chromoly flywheel. i just recently installed mine. it revs so much more free and actually comes into boost just a little quicker. makes it a ton snappier in the midrange as well
