Rubber Fatigue- Spare tire Popped.

Well I guess after 13 years the little guy had enough. I was driving through a school crossing zone doing 14 mph. At first I thought some punk capped my car. lol. Then after all the dust and insulation from the spare tire area settled . I figured it out. Let me just say when that thing went it was realy really loud. Did i mention it was really loud. Glad i wasn't doing 80 in free way traffic.

And no it wasn't over inflated. I check it every few months and only inflate to recomended psi.

Damn, if that ever happens to me I'll have flashbacks to Baghdad. Hell, that could definitely cause a crash at high speeds just from scaring the shit out of the driver!

Interesting story. The same thing can happen to regular tires when they get old. I was driving right next to a big rig truck one night when its tire blew out. It gets your attention, that's for sure. The industry consensus seems to be that any tire that's more than about 5 to 6 years old should be replaced even if the tread looks perfectly good.

i had an old tire suddenly lose air. I was driving at around 60mph when the back just all of a sudden seemed soft. Sidewall split and all the air silently came out in a rush.
