Well what we used was Redline friction modifier in the transaxles we use. They don't have an LSD so im a bit confused as to what this will do.

I've been running the Amsoil MTG for about 2 weeks now, and somehow the grinding into 4th has gotten a lot better.

I read on bobistheoilguy that when changing oils, it can take some time to see the real changes due to the EP additives of the previous formula wearing off. I always thought it would seem like an immediate difference from the driver's perspective. Clearly changing out very old oil for fresh stuff makes a noticable difference, but maybe the additives are more long-lived than I expected.

so any news on what friction modifier we should add? and how much?

I want to go ahead and change the fluid again. Its my 3rd time this year and im sick of the crunchiness

nothing so far. I've yet to try the Redline modifier. I've been thinking about it.

This is interesting. I have been unsing Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W90. There was a slight improvent from the original old fluid, but now it's getting rough to shift again. So I will try syncromesh, since I didn't even know that could work in our trannies. We have all that stuff available off the shelf at my job, but I'm not sure about the friction modifiers because I always thought they reduce friction. We have limited slip additive and "GL80" GM diff. additive that they use around here. I'll report the difference as soon as the Syncromesh is in.

Ive used Amsoil, Neo, and they all still cause the tranny to be very rough untill maybe 15-20 min of driving. I think synthetic fluid can only do so much, which is why im looking into friction mod.

I actually ended up not trying the syncromesh. The tranny guy at work says it's not 75W90 and may affect the clearances. The rough shifting may have had something to do with my clutch as at failed completely at the track yesteday. Just out of curiosity, what viscosity is Syncromesh, and has anyone used it long term with good results?

Synchromesh is not rated, but looking at the raw viscosity numbers it's thinner than even a 70w-80. I'd guess it to be a 60w-75.

Can someone tell me where to find some of the redline friction modifier and how much to put/mix with synthetic tranny fluid.

That is it. I'd buy some extra gear oil in case it makes things worse. I just haven't had time to use it myself.

Are you guys sure this is the right one? lol im a little scared to try something no has tried before.....

Also, how much should I mix? I have NEO tranny fluid im gonnna put in (again) and mix this additive.

I would not. That additive is supposed to make the oil more slippery.

I talked to the guys at Redline not long ago, and explained the shifting issue. The engineer recommended MT-90 because it's the least slippery of all of their products. He agreed that stuff for LSDs (more slippery) will hurt, not help for the FD transmission.

I ran MT90 for years and never had grinding problems, but it was terrible shifting in all gears when cold, and even when warm it was slow to take 2nd.

I'm loving Amsoil MTG - it almost never grinds into 4th anymore, and even when cold it's still quick and only slightly notchy. After trying MT90 and Neo, Amsoil MTG is the best by far.

I also switched to Redline heavy shockproof in the diff based on Dave's recommendation. This stuff is really thick and provides much better protection, and my diff actually seems a little quieter (delrin diff bushings transmit a lot of noise).

So help me understand here. Does the Amsoil synthetic 75w90 need to go in the transmisson or the gearbox ? My 2nd "crunches" pretty bad and I had no clue why and thought it was an unusual problem until I saw this thread.

I've heard nothing but good things about putting the Redline fluid in the transmisson. So would doing that and using the Amsoil 75w90 in the gearbox be a good plan for trying to fix the crunch problem?

Also, I'm a little car illeterate and new to all of this. Is the gearbox and the differential the same thing?

The gearbox is the transmission. I currently use Amsoil MTG in the trans and Redline Heavy Shockproof in the diff.

I havent used this on my FD yet, but I have used it on my Honda which had bad grinds in multiple gears. It took at the grinds out and made it shift really well.
