6 Attachment(s)
Hi I am currently building up my 13b from my 93 rx7 while taking the engine apart I looked at both housings and they were ok but far from were I wanted them to be. After looking at my options for rotor housings I decided to have Freelance motorsports resurface my housing below will be the before pics of the housing.
Thanks |

Hi I forgot to ask but they said they will never go out of spec. But I will email them and ask.
Thanks |
Hi overall they did a awesome job and I would recommend them. The housings are far better then they were originally. Another good thing about them is they do a ultrasonic cleaning on the housing which makes them very clean
Thanks |
Hey ArmyOfOne I noticed from your location on your profile that you are in Washington who would you go to do a porting on these housing and my irons.
Thanks |
Isn't Pineapple up there in the NW? Their (Rob's) porting has proved to be very good overall.
|
Oh OK I will ask him
|
Depending on what your goals are I would keep the stock ports on the rotor housings. The 13b peripheral exhaust port is VERY large as-is.
|
Were those housings sandblasted?
|
I may be interested in this service , howmuch was it if you dont mind me asking ?
|
Hi the housings were not sandblasted they were ran through a ultrasonic cleaner as for price I think they were $150 each not including shipping good deal I think compared to new housings.
Thanks |
Lets us know how the engine runs when you get it running.
I'm looking towards resurfacing some rotor housings I have and if it turns out well for you, then I'll get them done for my engine build |
Hi im not going to get my engine done in a while but im 99.99% sure that they will run just fine I see people running housing that have chips so they will run just lower compression but the housing I had resurfaced are basically flawless now and there is almost no way of having problems if they are still in spec and the surface is perfectly smooth and square.
Thanks BTW cptpain it sounds like you have had problems in past on resurfaced housings what happened. |
Here is the URL for the website that resurfaced my housings.

Anyone have these running now? Definitely tempting.
|
Once I get my engine going I will tell you guys how they hold up with a compression test but that will be a while because I need to get all the seals first and then port the engine.
Thanks |
This has always been the way to go. Dont get new housings unless you absolutely need to.
Think of it as a similar process to honing or reboring a piston engine. I have not done it, but my father has put together an REW which had the housings resurfaced/honed. It was a red JDM touring and apart from the resurfaced housings, it used stock seals and stock components, stock ECU and stock boost. It ran extremely well and was sold soon after. 2 years later I believe the car still runs fine in Western Australia. |
Hi SA3R who did the resurfacing on your fathers housings.
Thanks |

ALL of the experienced engine builders I've talked to have said this. Sean at A-Spec, Mazdatrix, many more... Really wish I had done that on my own build. Cleaned up stock ports really are the best way to go.
