Rotary liftoff minus 16 days..

Okay okay, so now that I have everyone's attention. I'm extremely happy about recieving my mazda rx-7 in 16 days. My father has finally decided I'm old enough/responsible enough to drive the car as my own. That or he is having a mid-life crisis. Both are possible. Well the car has recieved alot of work on it not because of accident but more age and mileage.
He has asked me to look into taking some stunt/race/defensive/preventitive driving classes. Since my car before was just a lil' old 96' 626. Basically he wants to make sure I know the power of the car and how to handle bad situations should they occur, (knock on wood.) So i wondered if anyone had any ideas or basic type suggestions for a first-time RX-7 driver in FL. Like stay out of st. lucie county (while driving the Turnpike)or do the speed limit, there's my advice.
get ahold of me however you choose. thanks in advance!

DCrosby 03-04-03 07:54 PM

Good Job, for repairs, Oh wait you're in Orlando / Ft. Lauderdale, No such thing....

Sorry, :D I used to live in Orlando, and moved for greener patures...

blondeRX7babe 03-04-03 08:00 PM

Yea soon it will be Orlando/San Francisco. Just waiting for the parents to move already.

For reliability mods I was thinking of going to Petit Racing in Ft.Lauderdale area, anyone else know some excellent 3rd gen places to go for repairs, upgrades and such.

first of all congrats ! getting a stock FD or modded ?

defensive driving course is a good idea. i'd also say a road race course like skip barber... i learned from doing stupid things. oh well it turned out for the best. i have NEVER spun my FD.... got it side to side but never spun :)

an important lesson i learned for a new FD driver is NO DRIFTING. when you go through a turn go slow. you can go very fast through a turn in a stock FD but you can also go WAY too fast into a turn and lose control. good luck with the car. you have pettit racing to work on the car. which is good :)

Silex 03-05-03 03:22 AM

Well congrats. Another college chick all the way on the side of the US that has an FD. Take good care of her and take even better care of yourself ;). Those driving classes sound supurb! Alot of drivers don't even consider that right off the bat so I can tell just how responsible and understanding of a person you are when it comes to your safety and the safety of others. As for reaching you, I prefer by phone # :D. Bah, I'm JK. Have a good one and be safe!

neofreak 03-05-03 03:25 AM

oh no! another FD in San Francisco! They're multiplying.. see at least three a day, usually new ones I've never seen before.. its crazy.

Silex 03-05-03 03:29 AM

San Francisco? Doesn't she live in Florida?

Edit: You are officially a Buddy of mine, that makes you special :D.

JShadow 03-05-03 09:07 AM

crazysuprakid 03-05-03 10:40 AM

I think she said she was moving to san fran...

CYM TKT 03-05-03 11:48 AM

check your PM

scratchjunkie 03-05-03 11:58 AM

ride it till the wheels fall off! wow your really lucky for your pops to sponsor you in a racing class *jealous*. good luck with the FD and the move.

crazysuprakid 03-05-03 12:38 PM

All those classes are so expensive. I would rather mod the car than spend the money on something I might already know or I could pick up at the track on my own.

blondeRX7babe 03-05-03 02:34 PM

Yea, money and trust from parents is always a plus. I'm going to be in Orlando for quite some time b/c of school and my parents live in Ft. Lauderdale so occassionbally I go home to check out what's going on and see some friends at Towers. Thank you all for the advice and praise. As soon as i get her i will post some pictures... 15 days!!!!

blondeRX7babe 03-05-03 02:36 PM

Oh yea and if anybody whats to chit chat about cars and kills, <--- love those stories. Catch me on AIM, UCFblondie.

SilvioRX7 03-05-03 07:04 PM

Petit Racing is no longer in Ft. Lauderdale, they moved up to West Palm. Not to talk sh*t but Cam is a bit pricey. I go to Japtix Racing....also in West Palm.

TTurboXfd3s 03-05-03 09:06 PM

always work on mods before looks! so u can back things up! and just to be safer! SUSPENSION is very important cuz the car itself stock has alot of power! and you want to be able to use all that hp!

SnowmanSteiner 03-05-03 09:29 PM

Like said already. Do reliability mods, then suspension and power mods. Then you can move to ICE. Pettit is awesome definately good. Congrats on the soon to be purchase.

well, not that you're a member of the 7 community, i think it's all agreed that you must post pics of yourself and the car...

blonde + FD + driving skills =

Silex 03-06-03 12:06 AM

I'm with stoked...hip-hip-hooray! Then again, wasn't there a ong thread about not asking people for their pics anymore? Cars are ok, and please post pics of your car once you get it, I am dying to see it!

Daily1 03-06-03 12:24 AM

Build your self a safe strong and fast engine first, then make it look good

blondeRX7babe 03-06-03 02:02 AM

Thank you all very much for your generous responses. I hope to post some pics next week. cross your fingers.

ill put another vote down for japtrix....great folks....been dealing with them for over 5 years...never let me down....

rocketrx7 03-06-03 04:07 PM

I will never do business with Petit again. Got burned in `97 by them and never forgot it. Since then, I've found several others with less than favorable experiences with the business. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

blondeRX7babe 03-06-03 09:03 PM

Thanks i'll look out for petit!
Cause you can't pull any :bss: with me.
-Laura
p.s. i'm looking to go home the 14th -17th and for sure the 21-24th. and drive the rx-7. so for all of you in SFL i intend to go to Towers. I'll let you all know.
