ringing sound from pulleys under high rpm
Today I noticed my FD was making a high pitched ringing whining noise under high rpm ( 5000 +).
I checked under the hood and pulled the throttle cable, the loud whine seems to be coming from the pulleys, maybe waterpump pulley, its hard to tell but its definatly isolated around the front area of the engine. Have searched to no avail. any ideas what this could be? |
could it be that they're just slipping at high rpm? would I tighten them to deal with this?
|
My guess is either the idler pulley is shot or the air pump. Those seem to be the main culprits for noise making.
A slipping belt usually makes a very loud squeal and mostly it makes the noise at very low rpm. |
I have no airpump and which is the idler pulley?
|
idler pulley is the one that doesnt run anything. It is between the air pump and the alternator.

Idler pulley is between power stearing and main pulley. |
grab the water pump pulley and see if it wiggles. Mine started making noise and then it really got bad to the point that I could see it wiggling under idle. Check all your pulleys for any movement!

Well i loosened all the belts and tried wiggling all the pulleys and there is no play what so ever.
