Ride Height

I have been savin all of my money to buy a RX-7 and i am almot there :bigok: , BUT there is one thing i have to know first, what is the stock ride height of a RX-7, cuz were i live we have snow for about 1/2 a year so if the ride height is to low i will have to look else were.

sevensix 03-31-06 05:36 PM

i wouldn't drive the fd in snow. clearance will be a issue in deep snow.. and i notice u live in canada.. it will be a good summer and spring car... please don't drive it in bad condition :) get a evo, or a winter beater along with the fd :D

sevensix 03-31-06 05:39 PM

btw ground clearance of the front bumper with a stock "touring" lip and suspension is just around 4.5 to 5 inches

rynberg 03-31-06 05:43 PM

1. Stock ground clearance is 4.5".

2. Do not get an FD if you need a single car to do full year duty in Canada.

:hah:

I would not get a FD as your main car if you are going to have to drive in during the winter. At the stock ride hight, the lowest part of the car a roughly 4" from the ground, not nearly enough clearence for snow. Where I'm from it snows from Oct-Apr, there is no way I could saftly drive my FD in the winter, the car is too light, too low, and too powerful. If you are going to get an FD make sure it is NOT your daily driver, expacally since you are going to be driving in snow 1/2 the year!

Iamfreakingreat 03-31-06 06:18 PM

4.5" of ground clearence isn't that bad my current car has the pretty much the same clearence, so it wouldn't be that bad, and if i bought a RX-7 i wouldn't be able to afford to buy another car, and i can't afford to get a RX-7 and keep my mustang

SiKoPaThX 03-31-06 06:56 PM

So don't get the Rx-7. Problem solved.

SayNoToPistons 03-31-06 06:59 PM

whats your currect car? a mustang?... seriously do not drive a rx7 as a daily (well typical daily driving is fine but when it comes to snow, sleet, ice and rain.. heh....) . thats diffenitly NOT A GOOD IDEA... if you want to try it for youself fine.. youll seriously regret it.

Iamfreakingreat 03-31-06 07:25 PM

Well, i got it figured out, sell the mustang buy the RX-7, and walk to 2 blocks to work in the winter and get a ride every were else

thats dedication :D remember to save a few thousand on hold for repairs and un-planned for costs. the fd will suck your money away.

Iamfreakingreat 03-31-06 07:57 PM

Hey do they make air bag's for the RX-7

SayNoToPistons 03-31-06 08:53 PM

edit: wait wtf are you asking? aftermarket aibags?... or did you mean "did the rx7 come with air bags?" ... thats a pretty stupid question...

SiKoPaThX 03-31-06 09:48 PM

Glad you could use our advice

I would not get an FD. Its easy to go sideways when its dry, its ridicoulously easy to do in the rain, and you would never catch me in the car if theres even the slightest chance of ice. Also, sometimes the roads here get wet enough to make small puddles, I hit a puddle going about 40mph and almost instantly was at 20, not to mention the car wanted to go into the ditch. I can only imagine hitting snow. Sounds like a bad idea weather wise. Move so you can get one!

true, i would not even thing of driving an FD in the snow. i dont drive mine when it rains let alone snow. i drove my FD in the snow once, it cost me 5K$ to fix :( it was actually a patch of ice no bigger then a basketball but it sent me spinning. i was going around a bend and didnt see it, thank god the gaurd rail was there!

Get an old evo or something....u'll be sad cuz u spend "all" ur money on a car u can only enjoy half the year that is supposed to be ur daily driver (not including the money suckin problems u'll encounter when u do drive it). Wise investment?

ehos 04-01-06 01:10 AM

No Evo's in Canada.

The one good thing about Auto FD's is you can drive them in most weather with the Hold button. I'm in Edmonton, easily the most vicious weathers next to the NWT and I drove my FD with thin Blizzaks and good ole hold button.

Mybaby 04-01-06 04:06 AM

What

How can you ask a question like this on this forum. Not to be rude. Anyone getting into an FD has the ride height, on his list of important this to be included in vehicle, right up there with I need alot of trunk space????

dradon03 04-01-06 04:28 AM

Well another wasted 7 I guess :(

Seriously, IF you cant afford a 2nd car to mate up with an FD its not worth owning... Fuel/Maintenence will KILL you. Think of it this way a beater civic will cost far less to buy, insure, and drive for a year than the yearly fuel and maintence on an FD. Dont go car poor with one of these cars its not worth it.
