REVIEW: TurboJeff PowerFC bracket

4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys -

One of the first things I bought for my FD was a TurboJeff battery tray. As I'm sure many of you know, it's a killer product. Fits great, works great, quality construction.

Unfortunately, when I went to a front mount intercooler, I had to get rid of the tray and do a custom tray setup for a smaller battery to fit the IC. Good thing is I sold it to a buddy of mine so I can visit the tray on occasion :).

When I found out about the PowerFC bracket, I was really stoked. That has always bothered me about the PowerFC - they give you some velcro to put it in place, but it's still just flopping around in there. Things get worse if you have a Datalogit as well, there's no good mount for it.

TurboJeff's new bracket is CNC-cut and very high quality. All stainless with a nice brushed finish and no sharp edges or corners to cut yourself on. The hardware is nice Metric bolts, and they're proper flange bolts with serrations, just like you find stock on the car. They're not some 3/8" goofy bolt from the hardware store. Also, instead of using bolts and nuts, there are welded studs on the bracket, again just like an OEM part.

The bracket wraps around the PowerFC and has black rubber foam touching the PowerFC, keeping it snug and in place. On the back side are 2 studs for mounting the Datalogit to the back, as well as another stud to mount the fan controller if you have that (I have eliminated mine). But, since I didn't need that, I used that stud to attach ground wires to.

The Datalogit mount has plenty of room so you can have a serial-USB adapter in place, which is a good touch.

Finally, the stock kick panel goes in place perfectly, just like it goes around the stock ECU. Also, there are cutouts at the top of the bracket for access to the Commander plug-in.

If you have a PFC, you need this bracket. Also, the price is VERY reasonable for the quality and engineering you're getting - I believe it's about $85.

We need more parts like this!

Also, here's a pic of my PowerFC before the bracket. Just flopping around sloppy :).

Thanks for the great review Dale. Nice pics too, clearly my calling is not photography.

Just to clear something up, the mount is made from Aluminum and weighs about 10oz. for the weigh conscious FD owner:).

Looks good. I spread the word to the Power FC tuning group.

Oh and question: would this work on a right hand drive car?

Thanks for spreading the word!

I have had one request for a RHD mount. It appears that the stock RHD ECU is mounted exactly mirror image from the LHD car so there would need to be 2 versions. I could make them if there were about 25 buyers.

Yup, this is a sorely needed addition that many of us didn't even know we needed.

An ECU is the last thing you want moving around under cornering, braking or accelerating.

Big Kudos to Jeff, one of the many valuable O.R.G. members of this community :icon_tup:

Received mine over the weekend. I had no idea where I was going to put the Datalogit and then this thread showed up. :)

My observations for my car were this. I attempted to put the main part of the bracket in first. Got it bolted down. There was then no way to get the top piece on, the blower motor was blocking it from fitting over the rear stud. Pulled it back out, re-installed, this time w/o the ECM installed. Couldn't get enough room to put the ECM in, back out again. :)

Anyway, 3rd times a charm. It was a little tight with the fan control which I still have, but now I have easy access to the USB port, etc. going forward. Keep up the good work Jeff.

The stock ECU is also weird to install, you have to slip it under the plastic tab for the blower motor at the top then get the 2 bottom bolts going in.

Thanks for the feedback!

Like Dale said I think the easiest way to install the PFC mount is to put your PFC in the bracket along with the Datalogit and fan relay (if you have them) then put that assembly in the car, plug it in, then slip the top tab under the blower motor first then the bottom bolts go in. It should go smoothly that way.

Yes, that is basically what I ended up doing, as you describe. When I put the PFC in the car in May it was actually rotated 180 so my commander hookup was facing down. I had to finagle the plugs to get it all flipped around.

Finally got around to installing mine. Beautiful piece. Thanks again Jeff. I look forward to buying what ever it is you create next.

Are you going to make more of these? I'd like to buy one ....

Houstonderk 01-04-16 03:17 PM

Just have to message him. I asked and he put me on a waiting list for whenever he gets enough people.

GoodfellaFD3S 01-04-16 03:20 PM

Santa brought my brother one for Christmas this year..... he was like, what is this? When I explained he was really digging on the part and the amount of R&D that went into it :icon_tup:

DaleClark 01-04-16 06:34 PM

Yeah, it's definitely not something you would know what it is just by looking at it :).

So, you stealing your brother's bracket? :)

If you want to sell the sheetmetal parts unbent and give me the bend deduction and flange length i can bend them for rhd.. as i was one of the few requests and not one. ..:)

Rocketeerbandit 01-26-16 01:54 PM

Can the interior plastic cover the ecu once installed?
