i think some people missed my point..... my greddy manifold had those nice welds and it broke. my diff brace had normal welds nothing amazing and it doesn't have one crack... just cause it looks pretty doesn't mean its the best

Besides your hypocrisy, Vosko, (it's OK to taunt others, but not for others to taunt you?) the funniest part is that you should know by now that I don't care that my car doesn't run, and it's probably the least effective jibe you could come up with. A close second would be something about using a "redneck V8"...
The welds on that engine cradle are fucking ugly. It is totally irrelevant whether the car it was made for runs or whether a person making comments about the welds has a car that doesn't. The welds are still fucking ugly... end of discussion. |

Short of that, though, you could use a differential brace, but as with the torque arms for the engine, I'd only use one if I knew for sure that the bushings at that end of the car were in good condition. A brace shouldn't be used as a band-aid to hide the effects of worn or damaged bushings. It should be used in conjunction with good bushings to help ensure that they remain that way and that it doesn't have to carry too much of the load. With bad bushings, it's going to have to deal with handling much more of the load, and it's going to transfer that load to whatever it's bolted to, which in this case would be the mounting points on the floor pan. Unfortunately, those mounting points were never meant to become a structural member of the drivetrain, as at least one person on TorqueCentral.com has found out the hard way. I'm not a big fan of bolting things to the floor pan that have a lot of stress on them (like a torque arm attached to a transmission mount), which is one reason I chose to use a differential in my car that didn't require a PPF or torque arm. All that said, with good bushings, it shouldn't be a problem. With bad bushings, there is the potential for fatiguing the metal of the mounting points which could lead to their eventual destruction. And that's all I've got to say about that... :p: |

Lateral and twisting motion is arrested by the stiffness of the bushings. It literally goes nowhere. |
