replacing emblems

i want to replace the mazda logo from the old oval shaped one to the flying M badge that came on the newer FDs. do you guys know of a place to get them for a good price (mazda dealership quoted me 30-40 bucks PER badge) ? also...do you know if the original badges had holes or were they just stick on? thanks

I'll be willing to bet that Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda has them for dirt cheap. Hit him up!

i ordered a pair off rhdjapan for about 40 bucks shipped...i think that's not too bad. i didn't see that guy's number until after i ordered it though :( do you think he would have had it cheaper? the freakin mazda stealership by my place wanted to charge me almost 80 for the pair...

I don't think Ray can get the actual '99 RX-7 badges. $40 for the pair is a fine price, though.

The old ones are held on with double-sided tape, and have pins to position the badge. Take your time removing it, maybe some fine wire to cut through the adhesive, and some Goo-Gone to remove the old adhesive. The new ones typicaly come with adhesive backing - just peel and stick.

perfect, just what i was curious about. so the new ones won't have any pins to fill in the old holes i guess? i better be careful aligning them then...

I think mine used the pins/holes to some extent, can't remember. I got them from Corksport some time back.

I do know for sure there was nothing to fill in or anything. They went in place very easily.

Goo-Gone, eh? I replaced my rear badge with the efini, but I'm still working on getting all the residue from where my front badge was. I'll have to try the Goo-Gone. Is it safe to say that the Goo-Gone won't harm the original paint?

I don't know about the flying M, but the Efini badges have pins to fit in the holes.

goo gone or rubbing alcohol will take the residue, but both will require a little elbow grease.

i used floss and then soap and water. pretty simple really. and ya they do have the little studs that fit in the exact same holes. i got mine from corksport for pretty cheap.

coneklr Feb 4, 2008 01:09 AM

I believe that the pins that stick through the holes are supposed to have push nuts on them that go on from the inside of the bumper.

Nuvolari Feb 4, 2008 08:17 AM

Ray sent me the wrong size, but Cork sport sent the correct ones. They look alot better then the old ones IMO.

spaceman_spiff Feb 4, 2008 10:22 AM

yeah, i'm wondering what's the best method to remove the old emblems. they seem pretty stuck on there. to the person who suggested dental floss, you just wedged it in between the emblem and painted surface and slid it through to break up the adhesive?
