Replacement Dashpot.
The dashpot on my car was fried, at one point I drilled out the fill valve and refilled the stock one and that worked for about a year. But it slowly leaked out and went flat again. The replacement from Ray, $95.00
So I ordered a mini-shock from Master-Carr. There are two that look like they would work. One has adjustable dampaning and is about $50.00 and the other is not adjustable for about $35.00. I got the adjustable one. Now it's not a perfect replacement, they are threaded 12x1mm and the bracket is 12x1.25mm I just ran a tap through the bracket. And they are only rated for 175F so we will see how it does over time. Now my decl. backfiring is gone and the on off throttle is much smoother. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y94/Gadd/dashpot.jpg |
Very nice. I have suddenly developed a high idle issue and "sticking throttle" (at least when decelerating/letting go of the gas). The revs willl drop, but very slowly. I'm going to have a closer look this weekend and see if the dashpot is the culprit...

Bump for this thread. I just did this replacement and it is infinately more adjustable than the stock dashpot. Will have to see if it holds up over time.

McMaster-Carr part #3691K11. Price has gone up to $57.14. It took me forever to find a metric tap 12.0x1.00. You can get one from toolsavings.com for $7.35!

--Jeff This part is 76.27 from Mazda Motorsports. Unless someone really wants the adjustability, the stock part would be the simplest way to go, provided you can buy from Mazda Motorsports. The Mazda part # N3A1-20-190 |
Just for the record, two years, 35k of mostly track time and it still works fine.

I am so doing this.

I've never seen an OEM dashpot fail...

I actually removed mine with no ill effects. :)
