Replaced stuff => much faster now.
Holy crap, I don't know why I waited so long to do this... Replaced plugs, plug wires, diff & tranny fluid (Neo 75-90HD), & fixed boost leak (torn hose coming off top of y-pipe).
oh my god, these cars are fast! It runs so much better now. I was fixing it to sell it, now I'm having seconds thoughts.... hmmm... Just happy about the results & thought I'd post. ;) check your plugs! (mine were shite) |
agreed plugs + wires = good! makes the car redline-able!

For 2 years I drove my FD around thinking it was kinda fast (stock) until I went to KDR for a tune-up. He found a lower IC hose that was torn, replaced my plugs and wires and OMG!!! I thought I was in a F1 car. I'd found a totally new love for my car. Your post reminded me of that day years ago. 255 hp in these cars is no joke - it's one fun car to drive.

were you getting 10psi on primary but not secondary with that boost leak?
how was your car acting before you did all of this? will help motivate some of us to do the same, iv'e replaced plugs but still not getting full boost on my secondary, have trouble shooted the TCA, vaccum lines, CRV,and beginning to consider the solenoids i hope for a y-pipe boost leak |

It sounded like an air compressor in the glove box. The car was noticably slower after the leak started. Other than the obvious boost leak, I noticed that the shifter took a bit of effort getting from gear to gear, especially when cold (fixed by new tranny fluid), and I was getting a lot of backfiring (fixed by new plugs/wires). Honestly, I kinda liked the backfires, but with them gone, the idle is smoother and it seems to come down to idle right away without fumbling around for the correct rpm. |
I am sure that boost leak fix is making you so amazed with your car again. Granted plugs do foul pretty quickly in these cars but when I have changed mine I didnt notice anything that would be considerably enough to get remotely excited about. Glad to hear your love for the car is back though. Good luck with it.
