Replace or remove ast?
 

What should i do about the ast? I have heard to remove it, and that its better to, but i have also heard that there are side effects sometimes when removing it. What is the safer and more reliable way?

if you remove it you have to make sure YOU remove all air from the system, if you replace it with an aftermarket ast then that will do most of the work for you.

I removed mine.


From what I know the only side effect is that it's a bit harder to burp the system.

I just removed mine this past week and it was the best choice by far!! Cleans up all those extra hosed and makes it look much much better!! I havent had one problem! Do yourself a favor and get this fill kit to make sure that you have all the air out of the system and while you are in there do a complete flush. My heat barely worked at all, now I have great heat! There was so much garbage that came out of my cooling system, no wonder why my heat was horrible! Ray at malloy mazda has the filler neck and has the best price (888)533-3400. mine has been removed. no noticeable affect. i do plan on getting the AST from fighter's. its on my list

I did the same thing, removed the ast with the filler neck from Ray. I got the coolant filler kit locally, but it did cost more, and haven't had a single problem. I did mine last year and love it. I do recommend getting that kit though if you are going to remove the ast. You can fill that sucker and let it run, once you stop seeing bubbles wait a little bit longer and plug the reservoir before removing. Then you're all set.
