Replace leading coil w/FC3S part?

I am going to replace my ignition coils. I've read on a few posts that the FC3S (2nd gen) leading coil is better/more powerful than the FD version. Is this true? And if so, is it a drop-in replacement? Thanks! -ch |
idk about that, stock fd ignition should beable to hold up to 550hp, there are some people on this forum which have very high hp cars with the stock ignition system

hey Guys, gonna bring this thread back from the under ground. Has anybody did this conversion?
I was thinking about switching my FD coils for fc coils. |
yes, the FC one is better. i did it to mine... its not plug and play tho. IIRC you cut the connector off the coil harness for the leading coil and then you will need to extend the wire and it connects to the coil by using two eyeballs connectors one for power and one for ground (i believe)
idk if they fit/or how they fit under the UIM... i relocated my coil rack to the frame rail along the drivers side becuase im not running A/C or P/S |
Ok, thanks, so some other questions then:
1. I would need the t2 leading coils right? 2. Do the t2 coils like the same dwell time as the FD coils or they like more or less dwell? |
1. i believe all fc leading coils are the same.
2. idk, that is up to my mechanic =) i just know how to install and assemble stuff, what they do and how they work/perform, a wholeeee different league =P |
thats cool, just make sense that if Im gonna change them, to know what they work best at. :).

You can run higher dwell time with the t2 coils if wanted or needed. And they will fit under the uim as long as you pull the igniters off them and use the fd igniter.
I am running t2 coils on my fd with jacobs amp on primary coil. I was told that these coils are very durable and will handle just about anything you throw at them. My car was able to make 600 whp with this ignition setup without any problems on c16 no ai. I am however going to eventually go with another ignition setup because all of these coils are 20+ years old. I have an a couple sets of these that still are good if you are interested. |

are you sure??? I could have sworn that there is a twin post coil for the leading and single post coils for the trailing on the turbo 2 cars

The TII and the NA have the same coils. The leading coil of each is a single coil with dual posts. The trailing coil set for each is a pair of single post coils. The coils are all the same between models and years, right down to the part numbers. |

I was recently doing the T2 coil conversion my self but after doing much research i realized that (for me)the this conversion is not necessary. The stock coils have been proven to handle 500+HP.
My opinion would be,stay stock or go with a complete different ignition system (amp and coils). |
