Removing Excess Nipples
 

Searched and couldn't find what i was looking for, When i went single turbo, i removed IAC, installed exccesive LIM and removed all emissions, found out i had a bunch of extra vacuum nipples that i no longer needed due to all the removles. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to pull the little dowls, so that you can tap and die some (i.e. allen style) plug bolts so you don't have to worry about a bunch of vacuum caps failing all the time. i keep having to replace mine, and now i got a vacuum leak again, so i'm looking to just plug them all up correcly and sealed.

also, when ya'll installed the block off plates for the UIM, did you use OEM gaskets with bolts... or silicone to sealthem? thanks!

When I went non-seq I just had a friend weld the extra nipples shut. The autozone/advance auto parts vacuum caps fail ridiculously fast on the FD. If you can't weld them, then use high temp silicone caps from mcmaster-carr. For the block off plates use RTV/silicone to seal them.

Yes, I used vice grips to twist the nipples out. Some were stubborn and required a little heat to remove. I then welded the holes shut, but the tap and plug thing should work too.

Sorry didn't see the gasket question. I used gasket paper from Napa and made my own with a small amount of gasket sealer.

dont' really know any welders, and i havce all the tools i need for tapping and pluggign them, i have an extra set of intake gaskets for the UIM laying around so i guess i should be ok with using them if i removed all the studs and use short bolts. Any other ideas? kinda trying to stay away from silicone except on the plugs b/c i'm going to use a threadlock/sealant that mazda has :)

Tapping and plugging should work on the nipples if you don't have access to welding supplies. I really wouldn't bother with gaskets on the block off plates. Just pull the studs, ultra black/right stuff/hondabond the plates up (or whatever RTV you like to use), and tighten it down with some bolts. Done.

if you get the nice vacuum caps from McMaster-Carr they won't fail on you like the autozone ones

i thought about it, but i gotta do a few other things to the seven anyways, so i figure i'll just cap them with bolts and NEVER worry about it again, :) if need be i can always put in new threaded vacuum nipples. lol. but i doubt i'll need it.

Pull nipples out, SS wire brush the hole and TIG weld the holes shut. Very easy to do and looks extremely nice.

Yes you can pull them out, drill and tap. A 1/16 npt plug works well, this way if you find that you need a vacuum/boost source in the future, you have not welded them all shut.

that's one reason i prefer threading, even though i don't wanna have to worry about them anymore, i prefer the tapped pluggs J.I.C. i need one again for whatever reason, i can screw a new nipple back in. lol. thanks guys for all your insights. :)
