Removing Air Pump and AC

My AC Condenser has a hole in it, and my air pump in on its way out so I figured it was about time to give'em both the boot.

As for my AC. I was wondering what the main components in the system are, and where they're located in the car. A short description of what it looks like would help too.

Also, what do I do with the belt with both the AC and Air Pumps pulled out. Do I need a new belt? How tight does it have to be?

Thanks,

-Chris

If you remove the air pump you will need a shorter belt. If you run the original water pump without the air pump the contact surface of the water pump pulley will be minimal and most likely slip. You can step up to the under drive set for the alternator/water pump and increase the water pump contact area alightly but most people run it without issues. I would recommend the idler pulley if you retain the stock alternator/water pump pulley. As far as the AC goes if you remove it you will need a shorter belt for the pwr. steering pump. How many of the AC components you remove is pretty much up to you. I'm pretty sure if you start unhooking the components starting with the condenser core you will figure out what need to go. As for belt tension follow the factory manual specs for belt deflection for the correct tension.

I suggest you download the manuals and do some reading.
The location for them are in the stickies above.
It is a good way to learn.

you could just replace the parts. plenty of used air pumps and a/c condensors in the parts for sale sub forum.
