Removal of ignition cut card.....
 

my 7 came with this little computer chip looking thing. ive seen pictures of it on other peoples 7's as well. I have been having problems with my starting and believe it has something to do with that. I thought it was olny one or 2 wires but when i went to remove it it appears to spider out to about 5-6 wires. anyone know how to remove it and put the ignition wiring back to stock?

Mine came with one of those too. It uses a key thing that's got a circuit board sticking out. I believe what I did was... pull the device out and connected all the wires together. No joke. I'd be amazed if this thing was able to prevent any thefts.

well if i remove the computer chip thing, the car would not start, click, anything. so when its removed it def will not start for shit. but i believe that is also my starting problem....sometimes it just doesnt do anything...so i would like to remove it.

sorry i was being unclear. I dont mean remove the key.. I mean, unbolt the little box that the key plugs into and connect the wires together.

Dude, post some pics up! I've never seen or heard of something like that. Sounds like some sort of aftermarket security system.

Definitely early 90's aftermarket.

btw, incase nobody spots it, you spelled "removal" wrong.... in the thread heading...

there are a few threads on this already, it is an aftermarket security system that is more of a hassel to deal with than keep. its more likely to have that chip break and you be screwed. Remove the box and connect the wires back up. its simple and doesnt prevent anything.

There's not even any chips inside lol. I took apart the circuitboard key thing and the contacts merely loop together to complete a circuit when it's plugged into the box underneath the dash.

These were popular dealer installed anti-theft devices used during the '90's to reduce theft from the dealers' lots. When they sold the car, they would try to sell the customer the device. If you didn't want it, they would simply break off the exposed part of the PCB "key" card and shove the rest back under the dash--so they didn't have to remove it.

It isn't a sophisticated device, but apparently just good enough to prevent a casual thief from punching out the lock and driving off the lot....

That should be easy as pie to remove. They most likely just cut factory wires going to the ignition switch and spliced in between them. Remove the wiring, splice wires back together, done.

If you're really not comfortable with wiring, I'd have a car stereo shop do it. That would be SUPER easy for them to do.
