Reman burning oil...???
So most of you have seen the pics of my perty engine bay in another thread... well since i finished the build i have driven the car only a few times - from the shop back home (about 15 miles) and around town a few times (maybe 20 miles total). the car has been running super rich since i have upgraded the injectors and i'm awating a break-in tune so i haven't drivin the car very much.
here's my problem - once the car is up to normal operating temp it blows a smoke screen of blue (oil obviously) but only when i let off the gas and the RPMs drop to about 2500. the lower the RPMs drop the worse it gets. once i get back on the gas it stops i let the engine cool down completely and tried it again to verify the symptoms and had the same outcome... is there any cause to this other than bad control rings??? i have disabled my PCV so the breather on the oil pedistal is vented to open air, and i doubt that would be the cause and the oil is not overfilled i'd hate to have to pull the motor back out again! |
damn doesn't anyone have any insight at all?
now i'm really puzzled.... just for yucks i rehooked up my PCV valve and now i'm not burning any oil... this is fine with me - i will leave my PCV hooked up for good now if i have to, but what caused this?
what injectors and fuel management do you have?
1000/1680s PFC
so you blocked off your crankcase ventilation? you should be running a catch can if you do not have a PCV. otherwise you will blow a crapload of oil if you don't have proper ventilation... happens on any turbo car (rotary or otherwise)
no i didn't block it off, i just left it open. i was going to use a catch can but hadn't found a place to mount it yet so i just vented the filler neck to open air. then i reinstalled the PCV valve between the neck and manifold and the problem was solved. thats why i'm confused

Normal problem. I actually was guilty of putting the pcv in backwards and had the exact same situation (smoke on decel). You need to run a catch can. Simply take two lines from both nipples off the oil filler neck and connect them to a catch can.

good to know... where is a good spot to mount it? i have the greddy can
