Relocating the stock air pump

I am planning to go single turbo soon, but I need to keep the stock air pump as I need to pass emissions testing in my area (Ontario, Canada) Has anyone ever relocated the air pump to where the AC compressor is or power steering pump is to free up some room on the turbo side of the engine?

I have searched and have only found a bit of information regarding using an electric air pump but I don't want to go that route as they are not known for their longevity.

Thanks,
Matt.

Have you thought about running a single that will work with the stock airpump? I believe the Apexi RX6 kit works with the stock airpump.

I've also heard of people rigging up electric airpumps short-term to pass emissions. Depends on how picky your emissions folks are, if they pop the hood and start looking around things or if they just see what comes from the tailpipe and that's it.

Or just move to sunny Florida - 68 degrees today and no emissions testing :).

Or just get the electrical one from an RX8...

The RX-8 airpump is only designed to be run for short periods of time, same as the Corvette air pump some have experimented with. If you run it full time it will burn up in short order.

I was thinking of going with a T4 GT35R or precision 6265. I have heard that the HKS cast manifold might work depending on how the compressor outlet is clocked and the intercooler setup. I am running a medium SMIC right now.

I guess I could just run an electric air pump for the emissions test every 2 years as they currently don't do a visual check; they don't even open the hood.

Emissions w/single...

I can appreciate your problem. I would have to think its gonna be a real challenge to make the car run the way you want & still pass emissions, I
feel for ya bro. They could barely pass in stock form.....

Good luck.

I have an RX8 electric air pump I plan on using only for emissions (so it will only be on for short amounts of time. FYI the RX8 runs the air pump until the motor is warmed up for it does run for a few minutes upon each start up, so it can handle running for 3-4 minuets of emissions testing).

The stock RX8 air pump does put out an impressive amount of air, however. This means it draws some legit amps, in the 30a neighborhood, so you need thick gauge wiring and a heavy duty relay. Also, I think it puts out too much air, so I was going to use a resistor to step the voltage down.

How I fit the OEM airpump with my GT35R

Think this will help ????????

I just happened to see a picture of a members ride.

Go to cewrx7r1's pics (album). He has a underhood picture of a GT35R w/air pump in stock location !!

Hope this helps.
