Reliability Mods
 

Hey all, I'm fairly new here, havent posted much, but i do lurk quite a bit, I've noticed that you guys talk a lot about " Reliability mods" what are these specifically?

Reliability mods are exactly what the name implies. Most of them have to do with the cooling system as the turbo rotary produces a lot of heat. If you want more information than the newbie sticky, use this site's search function (I'd give you a list off the top of my head, but I am sure I'd forget something). It is highly recommended that you perform these mods to keep your rotary cool and happy. Also the price is really not all that bad when you consider what you might be preventing...

theres not much to it really

theres a plastic air seperator tank that holds coolant you want to replace that with an aluminum one so it doesnt crack.

want to have aftermarket accurate water tempurate and boost gauges. those are the 2 critical things that will kill the engine so its good to be watching them periodically.

its a good idea to replace the first of 3 parts of the exhaust to get rid of the old cat which retains heat and doesnt flow well now that its so old.

some people make a switch inside the car that allows them to turn the fans on whenever they want to cool the radiator. you can also make them come on by turning on the a/c

lastly some people like to replace the radiator with an aluminum one because the end tanks on that are also plastic and crack and leak coolant causing your motor to overheat. I have never seen a radiator on a 3d gen fail and think logically that if you have a good water temp gauge you will realize if something has gone wrong and pull over.

Now you can do none of these and your car will still be fine. Its just to help prevent problems. Some cars need it others dont. you think average people that just drive their 3d gens as a normal car know about reliability mods? nope, they have no idea and their cars run fine.

Mine did (plastic cracked), but you are right it did not do any damage since it was detected early enough. I would still recommend it - in my opinion the peace of mind and the added cooling is worth the $300 - $400.
