Recommended boost w/ my setup?
I'm fairly new to the FD world.. picked up my 93 touring about a month ago. I have done a ton of searching on here.. I'm looking for opinions on what boost I should run. I'm going to have my car tuned by Steve Kan in May, and my local rotary shop told me I could run 14psi. I have stock twins, reman motor with low miles (good compression), fmic, hks intake, hks downpipe, efini y pipe, racing beat exhaust, power fc, oil pan, and aeromotive fpr.
My question to you experienced FD owners is, what boost do you recommend? Would I need any other mods if I wanted to boost 14psi? I'm looking for 300+rwhp Thanks! |
12psi...... stock twins loose effiecency above 12.... it would be useless and harmfull to run any higher...
personally i would upgrade to BNR stage 3s |

13breezie: I think you need to figure out what exact fuel system you have. It would be very strange to have an aftermarket FPR with stock injectors. With stock injectors you are going to be limited to 12.5 to 13 psi of boost. If you have upgraded injectors, you can get the car tuned for 14-15 psi. I wouldn't run that all the time on stock twins, but good to go for tuning and fun runs. |
So.. if I do have stock injectors, do you recommend to upgrade the fuel pump when I upgrade injectors? Also, would I need a boost controller to get tuned for 12psi daily driving and 15psi to run occasionally.. or is that something that can be done with the power fc? Would it be smart to invest in a boost controller too? Sorry for the newbie questions.. appreciate your advice!

Barban handled it. With the Greddy Type-S, it's one button to switch between lo and hi boost. Highly recommended.
You can see what injectors you have by going to the proper screen on the Commander. Just look it up in the manual (which if you don't have, can be downloaded from Apexi's website). |
if your going to use the car only for the street then I would say 12 psi max and a good tune by Steve. if you crank up the boost be ready to spend some money. since your new to the FD I don't think boost should be an issue at this time (10 psi is fine). you have a lot of things to learn about the car and getting in in good health before making high boost.

u need fuel pump and injectors then u can crank it up
