Recaro RZ seat rails

Has anyone figured out or designed a bracket for the RZ seats other than having to find OEMs? I've been searching and it seems like the answer is "no". I bought some RZs from Rammy close to two years ago with out rails for what seemed like a good price. There's a wealth of difference between what I knew then and what I know now, having effectively taken my car apart and put it back together. Well, I'm still on the "back together" portion but I'm getting close. Shortly after buying the seats I blew up my motor. I Spent the last year on the rebuild and haven't put any thought in to the seats. They have just been off to the side, facilitating the dream that I'll get to reupholstering and installing them once all is said and done. Now that I'm getting close to being "done" (of course you never really are) I've begun to give these seats some priority. Fact is, I feel like I've been had over them. It wasn't made clear to me that getting rails would be like trying to find the Ark of the Covenant or I wouldn't have purchased them at all. What's a chair worth if you can't sit in it? The other week a lady who came by to purchase a bunk bed we listed on Craigslist offered my girlfriend 50$ for the set. She elaborated saying "my son would love them!" Fortunately, my GF understands my habit, supports my addiction, and declined.
So, what options are out there, if any, that I might have missed? I'm feeling more and more like i paid a disgusting amount of money(considering their actual worth) for what turned out to be nothing but a couple sexy 50$ paper weights. I've got a Mickey Mantle baseball card that has the corner ripped off.

Have you seen the replica? Might be an option for you.

Thanks, I'll email them. Has anyone tried those? $1000 is pretty heavy. They better be awesome.

I've read a massive amount of info on this forum and never seen anyone review them. The price is in Australian dollar and converts right now to 789 USD plus whatever he would charge for shipping. The business owner posted some info about re-creating the seats and rails a while back and i remember it looked pretty professional to me.

here a link of it, one person have test it

FS: "Angry Panda Factory" RECARO replicas, tilt rails. - Page 5 - Sell FD Related Items

make sure you read all of it and think about it before buying it

If you go off of the pricing on their site you can get a pair of real seats for the same price...

DocHoliday89 01-26-15 11:44 AM

Pricey but it's at least an option. The seats themselves do look nice. Though the cost of the rails plus the cost of reupholstering makes this, still, another expensive project. Le sigh..

I am not sure where people are getting the 4000.00 figure for a good condition pair of OEM Recaro seats. There is a mint set for sale on this site right now for 2800 shipped with tilt rails. They have been out there for over 2 months!

Spirit R seats are rarer than RZ seats. That is why they are priced higher. Plus, the RZ seats for sale are patched....I wanted to buy them until I saw the patch work.

At 2550 AUD for the Pair , shipping might be really shitty tho

04G35S 01-26-15 03:09 PM

I think the seat I saw were from a RZ but still, 2800 shipped for the pair is not a bad deal.

I will have to look into if they were patched.

^ Thank you, I was looking for that, and it does appear they were patched which now makes me not interested.

Id love to see someone in the states get a set of the angry pandas. Im curious to see their impressions. Ive got a set of the genuine Spirit R in my car, but I wouldnt mind getting a replica set for my mazdaspeed miata.

We talked back and forth with them a few years ago about possibly becoming a vendor, from what I remember he was quite knowledgeable and a really nice guy. In the end we didn't end up becoming a vendor for Angry Panda as I believe he promised vendor rights to someone else. Don't forget you need to take into consideration shipping from AUS which will not be cheap AND you will need to pay custom fees.

Just my .02 and the more I thought about it, do you really want to be in a replica seat should, god forbid, you get into an accident? Especially a high speed accident on or off the track. Personally I rather pay the extra money for the peace of mind and the many millions Recaro spends on technology, R&D and safety each year. It is one thing to buy a replica bumper and another to buy a replica safety related product.

Many people often forget that the Recaro RZ Carbon Kevlar were almost $4k new EACH. The OEM Recaro Carbon Kevlar seats for the NSX were almost double that. You get what you pay for and the Recaro seats are worth every dollar, there is a reason why they fetch the premium they do. A typical set of RZ seats will run $3200-$3500 from us and close to $3800 for the Spirit-R. Finding sets in good condition is becoming harder and harder.

For the OP, your best bet might be selling the seats and then buying another set of RZ seats with rails. Or buy the set with rails, swap the rails to your set and then sell those seats. Otherwise finding a set of recaro rails individually is next to impossible.

There have been people who have drilled into the side of the seat with bride and recaro rails, not sure how safe that is and not the most aesthetically pleasing:

In ten years of production Mazda made under 1000 RZ's, and in the last six months they made 1504 Spirit R's.

RZ's are rarer than Spirit R's.

For the record, the late version VI RZ's (like mine) had exactly the same red seats as the Spirit R. While Mazda said they'd make 175, in the end 325 Snow White Pearl RZ's were produced.

Looks like a handful will be trying them. There's a group buy happening right now. Group cost is 1999 vs a normal 2400 American

04G35S 01-29-15 08:28 AM

2k shipped for seats and rails is a great price! I personally like the reps back pattern better than the OEM seats.

unreal-icarus 01-29-15 09:33 AM

can you provide a link to that group buy?

So, if I have this right, these new seats are about $2100 with rails from Panda or $5000 with rails from Purerx7. Not sure what the shipping and customs adds, but there is a huge cost difference. While I haven't seen the Panda seats, they say they have similar steel reinforcing to the originals. The pattern on their seats looks good, but it doesn't look factory good. Damned close. Its just the cushion inserts that are off a bit. These are a nice alternative and I hope somebody buys a set, so we can see how they are.

The price I quoted above included shipping and rails, not sure where your $5k number came from.

unreal-icarus 01-30-15 01:28 AM

where do you see the ap seats für 1850$???

unreal-icarus 01-30-15 04:49 AM

i am confused, there are no angry panda factory seats at rx7 boutique.
