Rebuild Recommendation
 

Looking for recommendations based on personal expereince with vendors for a successful rebuild. Believe I lost a coolant seal on a Pineapple rebuild that was done in 2001, with about 10,000 miles on the motor (yea, it sets a lot, keeps geeks from hitting me). Do not want anyone to think I'm down on Pineapple, think they are good but they are in Oregon. Live in Ky but do not mind shipping or delivering the engine if there is a good resource closer. Also wondering based on the seal failure if anyone has had the same problem when running Evans NPGR coolant? Appreciate any inf you can provide. Am starting to see the massive value in forums for people who like/love RX7's. Several would be lost without this one.

Were you running pineapple upgraded water seals? I dont even know if they were available then though?

For your question, one of the best around is close by, www.rotaryresurrection.com. He has built over 50 engines for me and my cars I buy/resell over the last 5 years with no issues. He has built hundreds more for people here on the forum. Best price/turnaround/service that I am aware of.

Maybe the sitting and the Evans coolant don't mix ? hehe, no pun.

I don't believe Pineapple was installing their heavy duty coolant seals on customer's motors back then. They might be worth looking into for this build actually.

You're fortunate to have quite a few good choices for a rebuild, you can't go wrong with those already mentioned :)

I had upgrade coolant seals put in my motor in '00, at KDR, so they were at least available.

I would say this, pick one of the reputable shops, like KDR, PFS (Ray), Pettit, etc., and have them do 100% of what you need done, and fix whatever needs fixed up front. It seems like 90% of the bad shop/motor stories I read, when you get into the details, are because somebody tried to save $5.00 and have their buddy port the housings, and another guy build something else, and then they ship it to the builder, and then have another guy tune it, and then when it screws up everybody blames someone else (often rightfully).

Peter, Dave gave you the teflon encapsulated coolant seals, similar to what RA uses in their rebuild kits. Simply for ease of install I prefer the pineapple over the RA.
