Which rebuild kit recommended?
I plan on rebuilding my own motor.(my 2 friends that rebuilt their rotaries will helping me)
Im on a budget though because i plan on upgrading the radiator while im at it so that will set me back a couple hundred, but just would like your guys input on which kit to get? I was tired of not knowing whether or not my coolant seals were gone, or if theres a leak in my system, so i would just like to eliminate that problem, all at the same time. Also i got my car compression tested and it was around 75-80psi, so seeing it is how im expecting tax money back, and my bday is around the corner, i think its time. Need some opinions before i decide to actually tackle this project. now theres the atkins overhaul kit http://www.atkinsrotary.com/index.php?pag=20-6 which is kinda pricey. But is it the best? Theres the Rotary aviation kit http://www.rotaryaviation.com/overhaul_kits.htm the basic is priced at around 550 and the master is around 950, id for sure go with the master one, just to be on the safer side. Racing beat has a kit http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=30017 1,300 is kinda pricey for me though, i dont think ill be able to afford the radiator after that. There is this kit, i dunno where i got the link, thank yahoo. http://rotaryresources.com/modules.p...=viewitem&id=7 i believe is the same as the rotary aviation one. for 918. Now would these kits include everything i need? Well hopefully thats it. I dunno where else to search. Or, an option would be just dropping the whole project and just get a used jap motor...but thats kinda "box of chocolates" not knowing what i will get...the 2,500+ prices for a rebuild are kinda outta the question, got kids to fee, and bills to pay. Well thanks for the time if you read this all, and your feedback. |
Man i wish i had friends that knew how to rebuild a rotary engine. if your gonna go with the rebuild, might as well get whats good, your already saving a shitload on not having a mechanic do it. Even at 1300 dollars for a fresh rebuild, thats pretty damn good.

yep, i also plan on putting in the koyo radiator, hyperground wires, engine torque brace, and front mount ic, while im at this rebuild project, and maybe just the greddy pulleys.

Save all you goodies for later. Your housings will need to be cleaned and depending on condition, replaced. Same thing goes for the rotors. This won't be as cheap as you're expecting. Lot's to do other than purchasing a kit.

rotary aviation! they kick ass. and you get "unbreakable" :D seals with it.

that was wise advice...hopefully my housings are ok, more please

bum.bum.bump.bump it up

Jspecracer7, you must have mis-read my post.. anyway..
PhatMandBud, break the motor down and let us know what condition the pieces are in. |
your "buddy" can be the FSM. it shows you what to do. and once you take it apart you can put it back together. . . just need the FSM for specs. . . if its just a "simple little rebuild" that is. :D

Sorry Guys, I am sure that this has been covered before. But, could you give me an exact way to tell whether or not the housings/rotors are worn.
Thanks Skeltah |
isnt if you see if the rotors spin freely? or like if there are any scratches to em. did you overheat your engine bad?
my cars never over heated, just heated up and after a few weeks of driving in this weather just deterioated the seals. |
I guess its time to stop dumping the money into mods and looks and actualy do the motor now, then stereo after that =) i love this car

Thought i would resurect this thread. I will be doing a rebuild sometime in the near future and I would like to get everyone's recommendations for good rebuild kits in their experiences. Thanks.
