rebuild has me frustrated...

I am getting really frustrated with this rebuild. I have a reman, and I am putting the long block together. I keep finding small problems along the way. busted harness plugs are really pissing me off. I found these 2 selenoids that are attached next to eachother and they have a bracket that bolts them to the UIM...there are like 3 nipples on each selenoid, and 2 on each are busted off. What are these used for? I also need someone to point out the different emissions parts that are attached to the LIM. Especially the two empty spots I have on the firewall side of the LIM...

Does anyone have good pics of there STOCK setup under the UIM with the UIM removed? I have some questions that the repair manual is not answering. HELP!

welcome to the world of sequential turbo systems.

One thing I wish I did sooner was go single (which I did over 2 years ago)

in that pic, just above and to the right of the oil filler cap there are two holes that are coming out of the UIM...there are 2 selenoids that bolt to those holes by means of a bracket...what are those selenoids?

Wastegate
Precontrol

the two most critical SV for controlling turbo seq. system.

you have lots of studying to do (not being an ass...being honest)...if you plan to get this car running correctly

Sprockett 05-23-07 12:45 PM

They WAAAAAAAAAAAAY over-engineered that system

i agree, I have more studying to do. I did a whole 1jzgte swap into my supra without a problem...man, I need to take a fresh look at this.

It's an old car that makes a lot of underhood heat. You're going to find lots of brittle and trashed plastic and rubber parts, be prepared to replace a lot of it....

Supra, the above diagram is a simplified diagram with the emissions removed. If you're planning on keeping emissions, it's a different diagram.

Those nipples were broke omn mine dude, buy a NEW one! I tried to glue them and it didn't work! Had boost probs when i put it back together. Banged a new one on and now it runs sweet!

Here is the *stock* setup under the UIM:

The diagram posted earlier is the underhood stuff with the emissions removed.

Broken solenoid nipples and harness connectors are quite common. It sounds like you should strongly consider buying a new wiring harness if it's that crispy. I know some guys who won't install a rebuilt engine without putting a new wiring harness on it.

With everything apart it would probably be easier to go with a parallel setup. Write-up is in the FAQ.

Good luck with her.
