Rear Subframe Question
 

This morning I noticed some liquid under the rear of the car, had to go to work so did not have time to inspect, I get home and lift the car, the liquid was thick and no smell, I thought it was my coilovers but no, checked my brake lines but it was fine with no leaks, as I looked higher right next to the rear diff on both sides looks like the subrame mounts, it looks like it was leaking this fluid.

Now my question is, is there fluid in those things, I thought they were just bushings..

Drove the car and drives fine, I am thinking I may have hit something on the road with this fluid.

The mounting bushings are just rubber, no fluid bushings. Are you certain that the diff itself isnt leaking? Check the casing itself, as well as the seals on the sides where the axles slide in.

Nah not the diff, plus the diff fluid stinks, this has no smell, but that is what I thought there should'nt be any fluid in there.

Maybe I just hit something.

If you are running OEM diff bushings, then that is your culprit. They are liquid filled...

Kai, if you want to avoid some labor I have a spare diff carrier I can send to rx7.com.....they can press in their bushings for ya (think it's like 40 labor) then send it out to you in Alaska. You'd just have to send them back your diff carrier.

Thanks Rich, I will probably go that route, but maybe wait till the winter when my car will be stored as it may take me a while to replace that, have not done it before....Kinda scared to drop the whole rear end...

BTW, do they sell the Mazdaspeed bushings, not sure if I want to go the solid mount way..

Have the carrier cleaned up and powder coated while you are at it. :)

I apologize for the misinformation.. guess you learn something new everyday. I actually have a OEM diff sitting right near me, never knew the bushings werent solid.

I'm not sure, they might but I don't believe so.

The rx7.com units are 100% streetable, I've installed them on numerous street cars and been running them on my own FD since 2006.

Ok Rich, I will used theirs...I'll take mine off first before ordering so it will be a quick turnaround..
