Rear interior center piece question

I completely forgot what it is called, the removable center piece between the bins and trunk. Was curious is it suppose to be some what loose?(moves left and right) Is there suppose to be something in the bottom slit to stop it from moving. The latches seem fine and have their little spring to it

The B-pillar plastics have little things that fit down in the grooves of the storage bin. My car had one broken off and gone and the other barely there.

You can put something in that groove to shim it up a bit to make the divider fit tighter.

mine is loose too, but i don't see any broken plastic.

is the center piece the one that has the plastic thing on it? or is the bin part suppose to have something there? i didnt really look at it and its to dark to take a look now, but i remember the removable piece has something that fits in the bin area but its not big enough to secure it from moving back and forth.

Mine has two little tabs in the bottom that fit into little slots in the top part of the bin, I think that's what your talking about.

The trans tunnel cover has the two tabs in back, in addition to a bracket at the center about where your elbow might rest. If you attempt to remove it, be very careful and patient as all mounting points are very fragile. If you're in the habit of leaning hard on the tunnel, there are probably numerous fine cracks in the plastic in the center too, giving it a soft feel.

Mine was broken when I bought the car. I glued the pieces back in place and then measured from the tunnel up to the cover, cut a piece of 2.5" pvc, and glued it to the underside of the tunnel. Now the pvc rests on top of the tunnel and I shouldn't have to worry about cracking anymore.

no not the tunnel cover, i meant the middle piece that separates the trunk from the bins.. im at school atm, ill post pics when i get home.

The divider. :)
Mine is nice and rattle free. Maybe the mounting points on the tunnel cover are messed up on yours.

FD3S2005 01-24-12 02:54 PM

is there something suppose to be in here to keep it snug?

my divider has the clips still there, nothing seems to be broken here

Ah, my bad.

In the top picture, I believe there is a tab that fits into the pocket in the bins. This tab has a pocket in it facing upward. The smaller tabs in the divider panel drop snugly into the pockets of the tabs.

Easy solution, replace your bins with seats.

There is nothing wrong with the bins. It's the rear quarter panels.

Rear seats weigh less, and are actually useful though.

I honestly cannot see how people fit in the back seats of these things. In my driving position, someone would have to have to be a double leg amputee to be comfortable back there.

Rear seats in an FD are a joke. A complete and utter joke.

FD3S2005 01-24-12 06:39 PM

Rather have the bins.. Not only is the battery in one, a 10 disc cd changer in the other. Anyone got a picture what's suppose to be on the quarter panel?

My kids fit in the passenger side just fine. They're super rare, and I think they're better at holding stuff than the bins. Also, I think the plastic interior really dates the design, the rear seats look a hell of a lot better.

ok this isnt a debate which is better, i could care less. I am wanting to know about what im missing/broken or whats going on

funny, here in europe everyone is hunting for the bins because they are super rare over here :)

FD3S2005 01-25-12 12:15 PM

take yours disputes about the bins/seats to pm's, i did not make this thread for help not arguments

dgeesaman 01-25-12 04:24 PM

I have confirmed that I correctly answered your question. There is a piece of the quarter panel that sits within the big pocket on the bins. The quarter panel piece forms a narrower pocket that fits the divided tab more snugly. On my car, one side has the piece of the quarter panel, and on the other it's broken and looks like yours.
