Ok, did the search, but got nothing. How long will it take to install a new wiring harness? Also, does anyone know where i can get a step by step guide (perferably with pictures of some sort) on how to do the install? Thanks again.

time depends on how mechanicly inclined you are. How good you know FDs and the wire harness
since you know nothing about the harnesses.. Im guessing for some one with hopefully in your sort good Mechanical skills could do it in a day/weekend

Well, I'm sitting here looking at the new one, and it doesn't look TOO bad . . . but I've said that before and been knee deep in lines before things finally got sorted out . . .

Wish me luck! Anyone have any info on step by step walkthrough? I'm putting in a Power FC and Radiator/Intercooler at the same time, so I will have some more room to work with.

Well... you would be advised to find someone locally... That's, of course, dependent on your mechanical skills... Which are unknown... :confused:

The wiring harness isn't :doh: rocket engineering... but it can be challenging... :banghead:

did you replace your engine? or are you just replacing the harness?

did the car come with a bad harness? or did you buy one that needed a harness?

if it came with a bad harness that you removed, it would've been a good idea to label what plugs go where.

i think your best bet is to find someone local/nearby to help you with it.

How much did you pay for the harness? Is it a full harness or just the engine harness. I just took mine out and it was very easy with the shop manual.

The engine was not replaced. There seems to be a short in the wiring harness, and it's an older harness (DOM 92), and I'm putting money in my car, so i figure, why not just get a new one and not worry about it. The guy I bought it from, in my more rotary naive days, did some "custom" (crap) work to the car, including adding things such as fog lights that he used telephone wire to hardwire into the harness, among other projects.

Anyway, I'm now going through the car and doing everything right, and am currently adding either the M2 Large IC/Rad. setup or the RE V-mount, along with a PFC, and some other goodies. Eventually (i.e. when i get some more money), I'm gonna get the Denso FP and 1300cc secondary injectors. In my dreams, I'm going to add either the MS GTC front end of the 99 Spec Front end, pull the engine, get a serious street port, port/replace the wastegate and get the stage 3 twins i hear so much about . . . but this is a long way away.

Anyway, wish me luck with this work. I've got 2 friends who are awesome with cars (not rotaries, but we're not touching the engine) and a week of free time this summer to do this. If anyone lives near Santa Rosa (like 45 mins no. of San Francisco and wants to witness/help/laugh at our attempts, please PM me. Thanks!

When I got my car it was a wreck. I had to pull out the whole harnes, even through both sides of the firewall, and put in a new one. All I did was take a plug out and plug the new one in. I didnt know shit about FD's when i did this. Fairly easy if you don't get ahead of yourself. Just take it one plug at a time and you should be ok.

If you are using a Power fc then you can take out so many connectors and their wires , that the reconnect part will be easy . this is a time consumming job but well worth the time . My mechanic is going non seq and cut the bundle down to a much smaller size . so simple to work with now . But it took a week to plan out . and replace wires with new and change to weather pac connectors .The harness is now neat and clean ,with every thing in order, easy to hook up .

Dom513: Yeah, that will the main method I employ . . . I'm keeping everything on it now, as I need to get it smogged, but i'm reregistering it in a pollution-free zone (after initial inspection it never needs to be smogged again), so then i'll go through and cap off all the wires i don't need . . . which will lead to an eventual aggressive streetport, then new turbos, then . . . .

I figure it will be a good time to clean everything under the hood when i ripped everything out (i'm throwing in a rad./ic setup as well), so i will have a fairly open engine bay
