Rattling sound when Shutting off? (VIDEO)
Hey guys, I just noticed today when I shut down my FD, I get a rattling sound... it sounds like its coming from my stock air box... but not sure. Here is a link to a video... I just uploaded it, hope it works!

Open up the air box. could have sucked something up in there thats rattling aroud. ts definitely a plasticky sound(not metal)
|
What could possibly get caught or what could make a rattling sound in the air box?
|
broken piece of plastic? maybe a soda cup shattered when you ran it over at 80+ mph... ;)
Could be lots of things. dead mouse... all dried up and crunchy... finally unstuck and now it's rattling... |
How exactly do i take apart the air box?
|
youre gonna need a 3/4" socket wrench, a good length extender, and a 10mm socket. remove the duct. then remove the 4 bolts on the intake box. the top part withh come off. remove the filter and find out whats in there.

I went to take off my air box today... undone all the screws, bolts required. Done that unclip the things on the side, but it would come off. I would be able to lift it up a little but seems like something holding it down from the rear, anyone?

Rear clamps on intake pipe? How long has it been doing this? Has it gotten worse over time?
|
When taking apart the stock airbox:
1) Remove the 3 screws holding it down to the chassis. 2) Remove the couplers on the back of the airbox, all of them. 3) Remove the wiring harness stuck to it on one side. 4) Carefully remove the whole airbox as one unit. 5) Now separate the halves and look inside. Too many airboxes have broken clips on the passenger side because people don't realize you just can't take the top half off. Why Mazda built it this way is beyond me. Dave |
