rattling clutch?

Hey, I just bought a 95 FD and the only problem im noticing right now is that it rattles when the clutch is pushed in. The guy I bought it from said he changed the clutch with a HKS clutch about 15,000 kilometers ago and that it has always rattled. any ideas what it might be. Im gunna try and get it on a lift tomorrow and see if it is coming from inside the transmission or somewhere else. I was thinking maybe he got a bad throw out or pilot bearing but im not sure. Clutch grabs fine though and it doesnt seem to cause any problems its just annoying. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

or bent/warped/damaged clutch fingers... do you feel vibration through the clutch pedal as well?

flywheel?? maybe

If you happen to have a three piece light weight flywheel, you might what to check the outer ring for looseness. My evo is doing that and teeth of the flywheel is detachable and the screws on it comes loose. little locktie will help.

Multi plate clutches do that, its normal. I run a new ORC clutch and flywheel, new bearing in my fc and it rattles when I press the clutch pedal. It's the plates rattling together. I dont mind the sound it makes because it cost alot and works.

Yep, twin plates have a distinct "rattle" sounds kinda like a fast tinging sound.

I just upgraded from an ACT S/S to the Exedy twin carbon...in the process I changed the pilot and TO bearings as well as the clutch fork. It's STILL rattling as it did with the clutch disengaged. I did notice a very slight additional sound that could be typical of the dual plate setup, but it's quite a bit less noisy than the other rattle.

Do worry. I just had my clutch out and back in more times than I will admit on a forum. If nothing else, I learned a bit about clutch rattles. Like some people have said it could be the throw out bear out more than likely the pilot bearing. With mine, it was the counter weight for the flywheel. I know it's been said, but driving around on it means that rattle is the fly wheel (I believe) bouncing off the bell housing and nicking it up inside. It's kind of odd that the rattle will go away when you push the clutch in and not the most common thing checked when trouble shooting. If it is the counter wieght that is loose. You don't want one of the screws backing all the way out and then rolling around in there. More damage would suck.

If I'm off base on any of this, feel free to correct me.
