Rattley clutch /diff knock noises and the deaf so-called 'Rota guru'

So I've had this knocking sound in the rear end latley and when i press my clutch in I hear a rattling noise. So I jumped on here did a search and I can pretty much be 100% certain its the pilot bearing and the clunk in the rear I'm not sure about but I know its NOT THE REAR BUSHES COS I HAD THEM ALL REPLACED NO MORE THAN 10K kms ago so dont try telling me its them.
So I decided to take it to this local guy who runs a very succesful rotary workshop complete with Dyno tuning blah blah... he rebuilt my engine and did a damn good job and he has built countless other FDs ( many of them 10 sec draggers and successful circuit racers ) and I have never heard anything but praise about his work and I have to say that I have been more than happy with any work he's done on my FD thus far.
So I decided to take it in to him to have a look today, told him the symptoms ( and what I thought it would be)and left him to have a look at it. He rings me about 4 hours later at work and says ' well I cant hear anything but it looks as though your rear bushes need replacing" I thought WTF? so I told him I had the replced recently and he's like' have ya? oh", so I told him I was coming in .
I went in there and grabbed him, we both jumped in my car backed out of his workshop and hit the clutch, sure enough " rattle!" I looked at him and said " see, thats the noise" and he's like " what noise?" so I did it again "rattle rattle" and he's like " sorry bro I dont hear anything" I'm like WTF!!!??? can't you hear that rattling noise, its so obvious and loud? he's like " I cant hear anything".
So up and down the drive we went about 6-8 times and the rattle was so clear but he is adamant that he cant hear anything at all so I'm like" what the hell is wrong with this guy? too many loud dyno runs? Then I took it for a drive around the block and when I change gear you get the rattle and a knock from the rear and he's like " naaa cant hear a thing bro' I said" not even then knock in the rear?" and he's telling me it cant be the bushes cos I had them all recently replaced so no he cant hear anything.
I preceeded to drop him back at the workshop and he was actually quite apologetic about the whole thing but I have to be honest I'm a little confused.
I left it at that and drove my FD back to work where I took a couple of my work mates for a drive and both of them said " yes theres deffinatly a rattling noise and the occasional knock from the rear. and they dont know f**k all about cars.

Its weird but its almost like this guy just cant be f**ked working on my car.
I'm taking it to another workshop tommorrow, I cant wait to hear what they've got to say, I'll keep you posted
