Rapair broken airpump connector
 

While trying to remove the airpump I noticed that the connector wires going into the plug of the airpump were in really bad condition. It was only being held by 2 or 3 wires on on one side. I unplugged it and it broke off. The whole line feels really crispy, and the wires look corroded.

My question is how would I go about fixing this? I see no way of opening the connector, is there a place were I could purchase a tool or a new connector from?
Just to be clear, this connector is the one that feeds the power into the connector on the pump btw.


Also, will that bad connection cause my airpump to smoke when in use?
I ask this because my every time I turn on the car with the airpump working I would see and smell something burning from around the airpump along with a horrid squeal. I've been running without the AC fuse in there for now and the squaling and smoking seem to stop.

Sounds like it is time for a new airpump. That squeel is probably what ever is remaining of the clutch dive inside the airpump...

Yea I picked up a new airpump from a local thinking a 99spec airpump would work with the 93. The pullies dont match at all and I guess I need to get another one.

About the connector, should I just bypass it or use a different connector instead?

Same thing happened to me when I changed out my y pipe. Most of the plastic connnectors are brittle due to the heat after 20 years. I ended up changing out both of them with tyco connectors from here:

You will need a crimp tool and the pins. As an alternative you can get prewired connectors with pig tails and solder them to the existing wires.

Maybe the bad connections was sending low voltage to the airpump thus causing the operation issues?
