Radiator relocation
 

I am not sure if someone has done a write up on this, so i did. i have already posted this in the "massachusetts meet" thread, but here it is for technical reference.


This is what i started with, 3 feet of 3/4 inch aluminum square tube from home depot and three feet of aluminum L-bracket, a bunch of m6 x 1.0 pitch bolts and nuts, washers and lock washers.

i forgot to take pictures of the in between steps, but after various cuts and drills, i ended up with this apparatus. i let the bottom parts swinging loose until i got the radiator in.

after i took more measurements, i drilled the frame and then tapped the holes to accept a 6mm x 1.0 pitch bolt. you can mount it further back or further foreward, this just seemed to fit where i wanted/needed it. same thing for up and down, though you can't forget that hood does need to shut. for reference on the hood clearence, i found it easiest to simply have a friend hold the hood while the hood stand was in the down position.

After doing the same for the other side, i test fit the radiator, tightened the brackets down and then put the raidator back in. this is the final product.

i have already put my upper bpdy weight on the whole thing (including fans) and didnt notice any flex or feel uncomfortable that it would give way. i still need to do somthing about the powersteering cooler, but it fits if you push it out of the way.

looks nice, i'd like to see it when you get the hoses for it and the power steering cooler in. could we get some picks of the bottom of the radiator where it mounts to your bracket.

i used i think about foot and a half flexible radiator hose from autozone. in the last pictue, you can see how the radiator mounts. FYI, the radiator has two pieces on the bottom that litteraly just rest in the big holes that i drilled out. i will try to get some pics soon, the car is a couple of towns over right now still in winter storage in a relatives garage, so next time i am over there.

Kinda cool mounting setup. However, it doesn't look like you have provisions for the Air Conditioning lines do you?

I eliminated my AC. stopped working a while ago, and i don't need/use it anyway.

Do you have Oil Coolers? cause the problem i ran into moutning my koyo straight up and down was the fans hit the oil cooler lines, i ended up wrapping the front line in exhaust wrap cause it rests against the fans.

I do have an oil cooler on the drivers side, i ran into no problems with clearance.

Hey that's pretty cool. Are you planning any kind of ducting?

at the moment no, because i have to deal with the FMIC at the moment, but when i am done with that, i might have to put in a duct.

I'd recommend doing the ducting. I'm running a Greddy and it gets warm after extended boost runs. Plus is gets plain freakin hot in stop n go traffic in hot summer months.

for the time, im a just going to do a duct on the top so that no air goes over the top, i think alot of people on here run just a simple aluminum plat in that way.
