radiator questions.. lots..
 

lot of questions:
i've installed a koyo radiator.

1) i want to use the FAL type fan but the stock wiring is a 4 wire vs the FAL's 2 wire.. how do i connect those?

2)should i upgrade the stock radiator hoses? are there any manufacturers that make aftermarket radiator hoses?

3) will i still have room for a front mount intercooler later or only the v-mount or the stock replacement one?

4)how do i do the fan mod?

5) what type of coolant are you guys using? i want to use the water wetter with it also

3) From what Ive read, FMIC is a no no unless youre big into looks or drag racing, but thats only what Ive read.

4) No idea.

3) You can still use an FMIC. The FMIC kits come with brackets to sit the radiator upright.

4) Remove the passenger kick panel, there is a lone wire with a spade connector on the end. All you do is connect that to a ground point with a switch in the middle. To use it, flip the switch, grounding the wire, and the fans will turn on. To keep them running after you shut off the car, flip the switch at least 2 minutes before you shut the car off, after you turn off the car, wait 30 seconds then flip the switch off. This will set the fans to run on low for 10 minutes. I use this every time I stop somewhere and it really helps remove heat that soaks up under the hood.

5) 33/66 antifreeze/water

And forget Redline Water Wetter; it's a waste of money.

No need; OEM is fine.

There's really no reason to upgrade the stock fans. They're multiple speed and move a LOT of air. If anything, the FAL's may not flow as much air.

Water Wetter DOES actually work - I have seen lowered temps on a number of cars. It's not that much, either :).

The reason the stock wiring has 4 wires is that the fan motors are multi-speed. The stock fan setup is very efficient for its size, and trying to redesign the wheel by using an aftermarket fan setup will be a lot of trouble and money for less cooling performance.

Enough to make a difference? I think not. In any case, "NeedFD" posted about doing the fan mod. That would make Water Wetter pointless.

From what I've read water wetter reduces the surface tension of your coolant mixture, which I would think would reduce the size of hotspots caused by localized boiling.

Am I on base here or is this not true? I wouldn't think water wetter would reduce temps in our cars, just reduce hotspotting.

I've got the koyo and the Greddy FMIC. I had 2 10" fans running constantly and I could not stop over heating. I got another set of the stock fans and it runs very cool now. Never again will I doubt the abilities of the stock fans. They are very good, just keep them. Also, I run "Cools like icewater" It is basically just pure distilled water but with protectants and lubricants like the regular coolant. For the fan mod with the stock fans simply hook up the blue wire of the four, to an auxilary power supply when the car is turned on. Hope I've been of help.
