Radiator and AST Caps
 

Guys,

Could someone please describe or post a picture of the underneath side of the radiator and AST caps. I've been having some overflow problems and want to replace my caps as the first try.


However, my local Mazda parts guy says both caps are the same. The ones he wants to sell me a very basic caps with just a rubber gasket/washer inside.

The caps I already have appear to be aftermarket. The radiator cap is similar to the ones Mazda is offering. However, my AST cap has the gasket/washer on a spring loaded mechanism.

What should I buy? I thought I read somewhere that these caps need to allow for expansion and contraction, which is how my AST cap appears to be built.

If you car is a 93 you may have the radiator caps from the cooling system recall mazda had back in the day. I believe it was Mazda campaign # 54407 coolant recall. The radiator cap associated with the recall has a yellow label on it changing its cap pressure. Underneath this yellow cap is nothing but a rubber seal. The AST has the updated cap also but this is spring loaded and looks like a normal radiator cap. Its revised cap pressure is .9 bar i believe. Hope that helps

What if I were to get an aftermarket radiator cap, ie: greddy, blitz, etc., what pressure should I look to get??
