racing integra with turbo need advice

you guys are probably wondering why the hell am i scared of racing a gsr, well this isnt any gsr it has a t4 turbonetics turbo and intercooler. My friend in his turbo gsr wants to race my soon in my rx7tt. he makes about 330-350 fwhp. im stock but am thinking about spending 2500 for upgrades. If i get a catback exhaust, downpipe, boost controller, intake, blowoff valve, strut brace, torque brace, greddy bcc, spark plugs and spark wires how much hp would this make and would i be able to beat my friend. thanks

p.s. also since im a rear wheel drive car and my car is about 500 pounds lighter does that give me a significant advantage

330fwhp...bs. No way he's getting that unless he's boosting an awfull lot, and he wont do that without a built motor. My friend had a t3/t4 turbonetics turbo on his gsr and i whooped him. I got a better launch, I out accelerated him...there were no if's or but's about it.

BTW I was stock

Shabib67 11-22-02 09:01 PM

thanks for the advice93ttrx7. yea kind of seemed funny too me that he could be making that much hp on stock engine. he said he was going to run like 6 psi on normal days so that would give him like 260fwhp then when he raced or went to the track he would push it to like 10psi which would give him 330-350fwhp. also with all the parts i listed how much hp would i make after putting them all in

RX-7 is not integra so don't mod like them. Intake,DP,HFcat,CB, I/C, Chipped ECU. That should cover 2500. Assume your motor and turbos are running fine. You should get around 300 RWHP out of those mods

verc 11-22-02 10:20 PM

500 pounds lighter? the gsr weighs like 2650 if i'm correct.... whatever, but it IS lighter than you

There's also gearing to take into consideration of course

A friend sold a FD to a kid, stock car, ran great. Next day he called back and said he went to the street races and got killed by a turbo'd GSR powered Civic. I guess the Civic ran 12's, uh well DUH. Stock FD runs 13.9-14.2. Typical modded performance for an FD, not fastest ever, for a DP, CB, intake, IC, ECU running ~12-13 psi are low 13s high 12s.

Don't underestimate your opponent. There are a lot of 12's Hondas out there, a lot of 15-16 sec ones too.

hahahha, its almost like saying.... How much HP can i get with neon lights, seat covers and a big wing?

spend your 2.5k on Boost intake/exhaust. I'm sure you can do without a BOV and spend the cash on leads/plugs. Run some octane boost 105+ on the night also !! Fun stuff.

Flybye 11-23-02 10:14 AM

$2500:
used Pettit ECU around $500 (make sure its set for your mods though)
DP (average of $300
MP (average $200)
CB (average $500)
You can buy a cheap boost controller for $35 that works well.
Pulley kit (average $200)
Intake (average $400)
large stock mount IC ($1000+ and you could always find used ones for under $1000)

You might over shot your budget a little, but with these mods, and depending on how the ECU is mapped and what boost you run, this is certainly enough for low 12s runs. High 11s if you're a really good driver. But who the hells races an FD in 1/4 :p: Top speed for this sucker will be an easy 170. Tell him to follow you up to that speed ;)

I'm moving this over to the 3rd gen section since it isn't a kill.........yet ;)

Dont underestimate the car is the first thing you should learn. My friend has a stock LS engine in a HB. The car runs 11's on slicks, and is putting down around 300 fwhp. And before you say wait till it blows up, it has been running like this for 2 years, and before that it was on the bottle. Its all in the tunning.

GsrSol 11-23-02 12:24 PM

I've seen several GSR's put down 280-290 just by bolting on a turbo kit at 6psi. If it's tuned good and he can run 10psi, he might see 330.

Assuming this guy can drive, you need to mod the FD just to keep up with him.

ZoomZoom 11-23-02 12:35 PM

If its a black GSR and the guy is Asian I know the guy and the car. It has a built motor and many many mods. He stated the car ran a 11.50 with slicks but I cannot verify that. This was 2 years ago and he has since made some suspension adjustments for traction. I rode in this car (If its the same one) and I was very impressed. I wouldnt bet any money if I were you. The car runs very strong. Definatly fast enough to smoke a stock FD. It has killer midrange. Get yourself a single turbo. He has about 15 grand invested in his engine mods. Its all about how much money you want to spend to go fast. If I remember right his name is Chris.

sexxy7 11-23-02 01:36 PM

Dude, you can take him!!!!

whoops that was meant to say any car

Batmobile 11-23-02 05:10 PM

A buddy of mind has a built LS/VTEC-Turbo and man that thing is sick..I mean very fast. Keep in mind that the HONDAS/ACURAs racers don't really have wheel hop problems like our FDS. With the mods that you are planning to buy....your RWHP should be able to hit 300. So it all may come down to the driver! Goodluck and keep us posted!

93TTRX7 11-23-02 05:18 PM

I don't think 10 psi is possible on a stock honda motor...but then again i'm not a honda guru either

Rex-VII-FD3S 11-23-02 07:28 PM

ECU, MP, DP, CB and u should take him or at least run even

GsrSol 11-23-02 07:44 PM

Friend of mine runs 12psi on a stock longblock. Fast Honda's usually won't wheelhop, they just spin and spin.

Shabib67 11-23-02 11:34 PM

i wont be racing him on the track most likely on the streets plus he isnt getting his motor build its a stock gsr motor well the only thing he is going to get is LS pistons to lower the compression ratio but thats all

PhatManBUD 11-24-02 03:55 AM

for all of those mods that everyone suggested it all adds up to about 2,500, but what about the labor, if he doesnt do it all himself, wont with all the labor it run him up to almost 3,000?

rx7speed811 11-24-02 06:42 AM

well, he should do it himself then. its not very hard, even the first time.

Quite possible. Rutt(Japan forum Moderator) has an American Equivalent GS-R single turbo(T-04E 57T) T3 hybrid and beat me. I had PFC/full exhaust(FP, MP, Catback)/twinpower/Pulley's, non-sequential, Fuel pump, FMIC, open air intake. We raced from a roll the first time and he pulled 2 cars in first gear. I kept up with him after that, but his car is still fast. Then we ran from a stop. I burned him on the launch(he had shitty front tires) but then he started catching me. Should have eventually passed me in 3rd gear, but we got caught at a light...

Now I'd like to see him catch me with my turbonetics 62-1 on;)

Ok, go ahead and race him cause he doesn't know that much.

Cetchup 11-24-02 05:45 PM

If he his making that kind of power he will smash you very badly. My brother is making those numbers in his Type R with a built motor and it's FAST. There is NOWAY in hell u will keep up. This guy dosn't sound to bright, but if the car makes that power, then you WILL lose. Have fun, hopefully he misses a gear or something. Haha.
