Racing Beat Dual Tip Catback

Any recommendations for getting a new one? Most places are showing out of stock and if possible I’d like to get one soon!

Atkins Rotary's website shows them in stock.

Most places show in stock, but will follow up saying there's a backorder and will ship out in a couple months.

I think the earliest estimated availability date for the RB's are January~.

If you are looking for a more quiet "gentlemanly" exhaust, the Tanabe Medallion is a good option. I believe it's easier to get your hands on too, I recommended it to someone recently and they got it fairly quickly.

May also be able to find a used one with a WTB ad, they pop up every now and again.

^Truth, I love my Tanabe Medallion. With either a resonated mid-pipe or high flow cat in front of it, it's a rather quiet system. I got mine off of Amazon for about $395-ish shipped to my door in a few days, back in April 2021.

Just never liked the look of the single tipped muffler.... but now that I'm looking at them...

I've got it with JDM DP and stock cat (JDM car); it's not quite the sound I expected for it. Plenty loud, just feeling a bit ho-hum about the tone. How much does the hi-flo cat change the sound or just the sound power levels?

DaleClark 11-22-21 02:52 PM

Any exhaust with the twins and the stock main cat is tolerable and not that loud. Getting rid of the cat or going single turbo exponentially increases the loudness.

High-flow cat will make the car louder for sure.

Also getting rid of the JDM downpipe will probably help some in the sound category. it will help peformance too, that thing is pretty rinky-dink. HKS downpipe works perfectly on RHD cars.

Of course sound is subjective, but I'm pretty happy with my setup now, especially in comparison from what I got from the previous owner. My FD is a single BW turbo (SX-E 300 series), previous exhaust was a 3" DP going to a straight-thru 3" mid-pipe section, into a catback that the PO fabricated with basically 3" mandrel bent piping and a dual tip Dynomax muffler. Looked stock-ish but sounded awful; ear-splitting loud and had a high-pitched raspy/obnoxious tone to it.

I initially put the Tanabe Medallion catback on while it still retained the same straight thru mid-pipe. It quieted the racket down considerably, but there was still some raspyness when I got on the throttle and droning at highway speeds. Next thing I did was replace the straight thru mid-pipe with a used 3" resonated mid-pipe section I got off a forum member that has a large oval Magnaflow resonator in it. The resonated mid-pipe was a PFS piece, all stainless steel construction with mandrel bends. The resonated mid-pipe squelched all the remaining raspyness and highway droning, at least IMO. Can easily hear the radio at low/moderate volumes and carry on a conversation with a passenger when cruising around. Sound out of the Tanabe when I get on the throttle hard has a deep, baritone quality, almost big V8-ish.

Yep, they shipped it to me super fast. Banzai put in the order for me and got it to me really fast.

Still need to install it. Not touching my FD until I get it into the shop because it’s been running a not so ideal idle and my cheap AFR shows it’s running more lean than usual and cuts out at stoplights, stop signs unless I hit the gas a bit. Think the fuel pump or something needs to be replaced, won’t find out until I get it in the shop and diagnose it. It runs smoothly when I’m driving it around though, just haven’t hit it hard yet. Don’t want to risk blowing the engine until then and if I install the high flow cat and exhaust before then I’ll be very tempted to drive it around lol

Want my 100-100 compression engine to last as long as possible, and not risk anything.

I personally did not notice a sound difference, removing my jdm downpipe, for the HKS, but have noticed the performance increase.

The racing beat dual tip pops up used a lot. Stupid sturdy and over built. Racing Beat exhaust are second to none as far as a quiet exhaust that will last longer than the car itself. If I still lived on the Emerald Coast I would have swapped or sold you mine.

What year did you buy yours in? Some forum members have stated, with good reason, that the recent versions aren't as well built as the older versions. There was no official change in product from my understanding, but the droning that occurs on highway rpm driving was something that didn't exist.

My Blitz NÜR-spec disageree :D. That said, i have repacked it myself but i did use both fiberglass mats and metal sponges.
The Tanabe Medallion is on my wanted list tho. Sounds nice on all the clips i have seen. Just curious about whether or not it will be restrictive when pushing past 350rwhp on the twins.

Mine came on my car when I bought it and judging by the service records and history I know of the car it was installed sometime around 2017 or 2018. I bought a new Racing Beat exhaust for my Rx-8 in 2018 and the quality was the same. The only complaints I have seen about them are on the FBs.

Surprised people are complaining about them. Maybe they are running non resonated midpipes?

@Jatt
What did they give as evidence that makes you say it’s “with good reason”? Can you please post a link?
I’m aware of two versions of the RB DT, mine being the latest and the quality is top notch. Beautiful welds, quality material and fit is perfect. Came with gaskets and even the hanger is stainless, which is an improvement over stock. I run a hi-flow cat and there is no droning.
I also prefer the look over any single tip. To me it’s a much more finished look.

Ended up buying a Tanabe Medallion… should arrive Friday. Really hoping it will quiet the car down.

c0rbin9 11-24-21 09:22 AM

Tanabe Medallion is an excellent exhaust by all accounts... I think you'll be quite happy with it.
