race seat

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here knows bolt on race seat for FD. I am looking for something lower than factory seating.

There are quite a few good threads that I've posted in if you search under my username and 'seat' in this section. I don't remember all of the info, but it's out there.

I like my Kirkey intermediate road race seat, mounted on stock rails. I sit about 1" to 1.5" lower, giving enough head room for my helmet. It is cheap, comfortable and works well with my 5 point harness. I use the stock seat and belts on the street, and bolt in the Kirkey for race days - just five bolts for the rails, clip in the harness, and done. Some caveats:

- You will need to bend the left shoulder wing forward to avoid interference with the door. I was worried this would make the seat uncomfortable, but it isn't noticable (visually or comfort-wise) at all. This was true of the Kirkey seat as manufactured in 2006.
- You will need to obtain an extra set of stock rails, and remove the right stock seat belt clip before mounting the Kirkey as it interferes with the seat.
- To mount the seat on rails, use long bolts up front with some steel tubing as a "washer" between the front rail and seat mount points, to set the proper seat angle. In the rear, just bolt directly to the rail. You will need to be careful with fitment to be sure you drill the mount points in the seat in the right places. I think Gene Felber was the first to do this - his posts gave me the idea to try it out.
- I also put additional foam in for lumbar support - one advantage of a simply designed seat is that it is very easy to adjust the padding.
