R1 spoiler mounting / isolators
Just about to re mount the R1 spoiler that was on my FD, and the fitment is absolutely awful, the outer feet sit fairly decently The inner feet sit nearly half an inch off at some points and closer at others. The hatch is in fine shape and distorted, it just seems the spoiler itself is warped, or was it like that from the beginning? Whoever mounted it before me layered up a bunch of thin foam sheeting to make up the difference. What are the OEM isolators like, can they still be ordered?

You may want to get some pics up of what you are seeing.
Fit should be VERY close just sitting the wing on the hatch. There are gaskets and isolators that go between the spoiler and the hatch but they don't fill much space, like 1-2mm maybe. Dale |
I installed a new OEM spoiler last year. Ray got me the thin gaskets and the OEM screws. As Dale stated the gaskets are very thin. If it is an OEM spoiler (there were some Chinese knock-offs and Racing Beat sold their own version back in the day) it should fit the in the stock location. It sounds like it really didn’t fit before you took it off. So, I would guess you have one of the following situations:
1. Stock OEM spoiler installed by someone in slightly the wrong location. 2. Racing Beat spoiler installed in the the correct OEM location, the RB uses slightly different hole locations. 3 It was one of the Chinese spoilers and who knows what is going on. |
I'll be back at my shop tomorrow and I can grab some pictures of the fitment. There are no makers marks anywhere, just 4 numbers embossed on the center of the bottom side. Whoever did install it for sure measured once and drilled twice.

This is the only marking on the entirety of the spoiler
Attachment 747658 Here is the bottom of the feet, and some pictures of the awful gap. Some of the pain peeled when removing the sticky foam from the previous install Attachment 747659 https://imgur.com/LswzckW https://imgur.com/IET3sYY |
That is definitely not a stock spoiler. Also possible it's not really designed for the FD - could be for a different car.
The stock spoiler will have the numbers on the underside like the post above. Also the stock one is a plastic, not fiberglass. Dale |
Just for completeness that’s not a Racing Beat replica either. I just pulled out a late model RB spoiler and it has a part number and a small vent hole on the bottom:

Seems I found the source of why all the interior harnesses in my car turned to dust ha.
