R1, R2, Touring, Suspension Differences
What is mechanically different between the R1, R2, and touring suspensions? As in different struts, springs or both?
|
R1 - very stiff shock valving
R2 - Not as stiff as original R1 Base and touring had shocks set the same, softer than R2. Springs and sways were the same for all. |
Rear sway bar changed in 94, though I am not sure if all models changed.
The springs changed very slightly at some point, too, but it was just a few lbs/in, so I don't think it was significant. -Max |
The springs were changed in 94 to a softer, longer spring. A stock 94/95 FD will sit a little higher than a stock 93.

Also, R1/R2 shocks were made by SHOWA.

Quick answer: Who gives a shit? :D
All the U.S. FDs are now 9+ years old. With the number of owners and miles that the majority of them have now, they've either already had the shocks and springs replaced, or they're probably due to have them replaced. Once you put a set of aftermarket springs and shocks or coilovers on the car, it really doesn't matter any more which model came with a stiffer suspension, does it? I really get tired of seeing this question asked over and over again... :p: |

Hah, I've got my stock R2 Showas sitting in the corner < 20K miles on them.

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if there are any different part number on the stiffer 93-suspension vs. the later suspension? and if so, what was the part number on the stiffer R1 suspension?
|
I'm assuming that your inquiry is because you are looking to replace OEM parts with OEM. Try calling Ray Crowe (he would know), not sure if he can do international shipping though.

Thank you!
I did not know the trailing arm bushings were stiffer on the R1/R2 models. |
