not very hard at all. The rotary is very expendable, no matter how much money is put into it. If it is not properly warmed up and cooled down everytime, or if it is ever overheated, or if it ever ran lean....then it could be shot before you can blink. Def. get the compression test done. Also, look in the oil filler neck and see if there is any white stuff in there, if there is, chances are you have a coolant seal bad, move on to the next car. Those are the 2 main things to look for. I'm by far no rotary expert, but I just went through the buying process about a month ago and just trying to pass along a few pointers. Oh yeah, one last thing, make sure you shift into all the gears...alot of times 5th will grind due to "missed" second to third shifts. If this be the case, I'd advise finding another one also. Hope this helps. Later.
