Quick motor mount removal question...

I've read that removing the nuts from the bottom of both motor mounts would allow you to jack up the engine.

I've removed these nuts but jacking up the engine jacks up the whole car!

Is there something else to unbolt?
Do I just need to wiggle the car until the motor mount studs slip through the subframe?

What gives?

Thanks in advance.

Is it still attached to the tranny?

If you mean the engine and transmission - yes, they are attached. I've placed the jack under the transmission to raise the engine - as recommended in several other threads.

If you mean something else, please elaborate.

It doesn't need to move very far... maybe an inch to an inch and a half to get tools onto the bolts for the motor mounts that go into the bottom of the block and work the mounts themselves out after unbolting.

Figured it out

Well, the engine started moving independent of the rest of the car after I jacked it up some more. Apparently I just wasn't jacking enough (being conservative).

Now that I have the clearance I'm able to remove the mounts fairly easily.
