Installed this Quick Latch hood pins and I am pretty happy how the install came out.

Those are excellent! The best I've seen thus far.
These also caught my eye—it would be great if someone where to adapt/customize for FD application. I've always hated hood pins, even the aerocatch, and these are completely hidden. Ford Mustang Stealth Hood Pins |
Dang those are pricey, did you really drop $400 for those, plus install?
To the OP which one did you actually buy? The black anodized ones? I only ask because they have many to offer and the ones you have are small and black almost matching the paint

Ahh, Their actual hood pins are $299 or $399 for locking hoodpins, which are QL-50. Mini's seem like they will work just fine in conjunction with the center latch. But without the center latch I question how well they would hold up with a cf/fg hood, because of the reduced diameter and coverage.
I'm thinking you're fine with these. Essentially all you're doing is preventing movement that causes breakage of the factory latch, and/or having a safeguard if it does break... what really puts the forces at play is when the hood pops up and gets significant air under it.
I have been wanting to do this and it looks very clean...
Can you show the underhood details!
I will post pics of underhood, and yes the mini latch are to use in conjuction with the factory latch
Nice, I'm kinda scared to drill into my authentic RE hood though, lol. How long was the install?
Took me about 45 minutes that's was doing the layout and removing hood. I used a step bit and drill to the top first to make the hole 7/8" then drill to the back of the hood to 1 1/8" in order to fit the locking nut, that's on a stock hood, if you have aftermarket the skeleton might be different.
Think I will need these...
So you're still using the factory latch as well? So to open the hood, you push the buttons on the Quik-Latches, then the interior hood release, right? |
FYI, you should always use the factory latch with hood pins. I've known at least 3 people who "saved weight" removing the factory latch and going with hood pins, then didn't have the pins anchored right or didn't have them latched and had the hood fly up and smash the roof and windshield.
I like how those hood pins look - clean and simple. I'm surprised you got that much movement on the stock hood, my stock hood is solid as a rock. Dale |
I'm not planning on losing the stock latch, just want to confirm the procedure for opening the hood. It sounds like you push the button on these latches to disengage them and they'll stay disengaged until latched again. Which is what is needed to retain the stock hood latch if you want one person to be able to open the hood!
I installed these in 2 hours Last Friday night...brilliant design and they work perfectly. To open...I release the hood as usual then pop the two mini latches and the hood raises normally...
Yes to open i first release stock hood latch then release the pin, to closed tge hood i first latch the factory latch tgen the quick latch pins.
I like the look, will have to get a set of these for my RE-N1 hood. Thanks for sharing :icon_tup:
Is there a way to get rid of flappy hood without resorting to hood pins? As nice as these pins look, I'd like to avoid drilling the hood for as long as possible...
There are under hood options but expensive and extremely complicated.
Otherwise no |
One of the common causes of the floppy bonnet is removal of the plastic piece bridging the gap between the rad support panel and the bumper reinforcement, high pressure air will have the front vibrating even at moderate speeds......and reduce the efficiency of the various heat exchangers.
These are great. :icon_tup: i definitely need them too. Now I just need somebody to hold my hand and tell me that is going to be OK drilling into my freshly painted hood....
Just use painters blue tape and layout, using the step bit just let the bit do the work do not put a lot of pressure in the drill.
