Questions of 3rd gen reliability and value of CYM rex

I've been interested in RX-7s for awhile now but was always turned off by there reliability. After seeing a few of them with mild body kits and non pop up headlights that completely transformed a good looking car into one of the nicest cars I've ever seen, I thought it was time I found out exactly why they are considered so unreliable.

I never doubted their performance, in a straight line, or in the curves but...what are the basic or necesary mods to improve a 3rd gen RX-7s reliability? How reliable are the single turbo versions with built motors?

I know of a CYM RX-7 in my area that looks and sounds stock, that I was thinking of checking out in person and depending on how things go, purchase. Car isn't posted for sale, but I know where the guy lives and might stop by sometime and inquire.

What would be a reasonable offer assuming it is bone stock, in decent condition, with appxromiately 60k miles?

About $17k. Assuming the car has no new engine.

Really just depends how much you're willing to pay for it, but a decent price would be $17k-$18k assuming it's in really good shape. Just depends tho, I have a CYM w/ 40k miles with most of the reliability mods done and an APEX'i PowerFC and I took the car to the dealer yesterday to buy some parts and the one of the sales managers offered to me $20k for my car. Kinda funny cause he wouldn't go away even tho I kept telling him I wasn't selling the car.

CYMs with replaced engines will go for 17k as well. Ignore whether or not the engine has been replaced. If it hasn't then it could add $$ as a collector piece. Regardless the valve of a CYM is always 3k to 5k above the other 3rd gen prices. If you don't believe me I have a dealer you can talk to .... trust me, I bought mine as soon as it hit is lot!

Just curious where are these prices coming from, the dealer offering 20k sounded about right but thinking you will get a NICE CYM for 17k whos smoking what ?

I know if someone offered me ANYTHING under 24k for my 49k original mile CYM I would laugh, hard.

Hehhehe:D

Yeah, it seems like people that don't actually have a CYM don't realize how much more you can actually get for it over the other colors. Personally, now that I have a CYM, I don't think it's worth the premium you have to pay for it, but that's how it goes. I didn't believe it at first but, people ARE willing to pay a couple thousand over the BB value for a CYM, especially if it's in good condition.

Well, if someone offered my $23k for my 40k original mile CYM, I'd have to say... SOLD!!! hahaha... personally I think $24k is a bit much, but the crazy thing is, there probably is someone out there that is willing to pay that.

Ok, mint CYMs are very high $$ while average CYMs are that 3-5 thousand over while run down ones pull 2-3 thousand more. I think mine was worth every penny.
