Question for those who have gone Full Non-Sequential
OK I have read and searched for over a week because I am thinking about going non-sequential because I am tired of sticking solenoids when running higher than stock boost.
I know the biggest draw back is the lag and it is the only thing stopping me from going non-sequential. My question which was not really addressed in any posts I serached is... On a manual tranny is the lag only an issue when driving normally (in other words just city driving and putting around town part throttle) or is the lag an issue when you are driving hard too? (does downshifting and being in the right RPM solve the lag issue or is there still lag)? Is there lag when launching hard from first gear? If you are going to run someone, down shift and floor it are you at a disadvantage over sequential? I only drive the car on weekends (spirited drives) as well as track it (a few track days a year and a few times to the 1/4 mile track a year). Mods are: DP MP (with high flow cat) Greddy Profec B Spec 2 EBC Cat back SMIC Intake ACT clutch Pettit ECU Thanks for any input. |
It obviously doesnt respond like sequential but the lag is far from what the sequential guys on this site will lead you to believe. Intake and full exhaust and you will have 10lbs by 3300 rpms. 14lbs by a couple hundred rpms more.

Yea it is not as bad as they make it sound. I hit fill boost right around 3500 like he said. And there is much less stuff in the engine bay to go wrong or deal with.

Thanks guys. This is the exact type of info I was looking for. I have read about some guys who went N-S and it sounds like it is the worst thing you could have ever done.

I went NS, and I absolutely love it. The sequential guys had me believing I wouldn't reach full boost until 4500rpms :rolleyes: |
I like my rich mans non seq and will not even think of having a manual tranny car with the stock setup .When boosting and shifting with two blowoff valves there is no lag .

+1 for parallel turbos. Very unnoticeable lag. Much less than I had on my non-sequential stock twin Supra.

the lag is very minimal. I was all smiles after i did it and never looked back. There are some many things that you do not have to worry about anymore, and makes things so much easier to work on with the car.

Proper use of the gears reduces lag to a minimum. Non-seq was made for "gear jammers" Seq is for people with auto-trans mentality!

hated drving Seq in the city.. Non Seq FTW.. but your exhaust gets louder..

I've been NS for a year and the lag is very minimal. I make boost at 3750RPM's. THE only thing close to and issue, is that when boost comes on, the freaking thing pulls like a freight train. You have to make sure you know where you are at with the car. Breaking traction in mid to high RPM's in 2nd gear is common. And that is easing into the throttle.

Yep, once you hit full boost between 3-4k rpm the car is going to pull like crazy. Really caught me off guard the first time I stepped on it. It can get you in trouble if you take off going full throttle sometimes!

Ohhh but the fun you have when it does pull....nothing but grins on my face every time I think about having gone full non-sequential....no regrets and fuel consumption improves somewhat if you don't boost. The only thing that has me worried is the straight through 3" exhaust existing through a RB catback. The sound is amazing, but loud and raspy. I have to be careful when and where I open it up. At least a cat and maybe a resonator are definitely required.

I'm actually running a second test for repeatability right now. I need to reconfirm it, but the first test resulted in a 10-12% improvement. I wouldn't call it "much better", but it's noticeable. It's basically a function of staying off boost....hard when it's so much fun with it. I'll post when I fill up again....likely early next week.

I am also interested in trying out/going non seq...
I understand that there are a few variations to this. What is the easiest way to acheive non seq? Must i port my wastegate when changing from seq to non seq? I would rather skip this step rather because of the tools required and expertise needed to do this step.. Can anyone post a link to a write up/guide on how to change the stock system to a non sequential turbo system? I wouldnt mind taking a look at a few different ways... |
ive searched and searched but cant find any full articles on converting to non-sequential. what is the full process and what exactly do you have to remove?
if anyone can link me to an article or how to i would greatly appreciate it. |
rotary resurrection has a great write up for full non-seq conversion, its the one I used and
Ive yet to have any problems. |
